Obvs, fairies get no special passes, from me anyway.

Are you saying atheism is correct? I'm not sure what you're arguing with me about.

I'm saying that you're giving a special pass to djinn, and that I wouldn't. Thankfully the thought hasn't seemed to cross my daughters mind - she's as dismissive as I am when it comes to the subject of god. But if she ever asks...I'm not going to lie to her, or blow smoke up her ass. Certainly not because I'm worried that being truthful would turn atheism into some sort of cult.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

You said something I find to be about as silly as god. I doubt that you would say the same thing about math or biology (or physics, or history, or musical composition, or english lit, or........well, you get it by now, I'm sure).

"Daddy, is this god business legit?"
-Nope, not even a little bit.

What's the problem?

I didn't say atheism is silly. I said teaching that it was the only correct way of thinking was silly. It turns atheism into an identity instead of a conclusion. Atheism shouldn't be taught, it should be something that people decide to think on their own.

I seem to agree with the Viking, can you elaborate on your objection, Rhythm? I think communication is lacking clarity here...
The fool hath said in his heart, There is a God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good.

Like eating lead paint? Or is that something that we don't need to let children decide on their own? I mean, obviously, I hope that I don't ever have to explain to my daughter that there isn't some phantom pulling strings in this world or some non-existent next...she's off to such a good start - but if it's ever required...I'd be a pretty shitty parent if I declined -imo. Pretty sure atheism doesn't have the body to be an identity no matter how one arrives at it.

I still don't get the reverence this god idea is getting. Why is this thing put on such a high place? As I asked, is there a problem with teaching kids biology or math...aren't we worried about it turning into a cult or identity (is there anything at all that we should teach our kids, if we're worried about those things)?

atheism must be a big part of your identity though if you get so offended when i say it's not the only correct way of thinking.

Don't get me wrong, I'd tell my kids how unlikely I find that whole god idea and why, because I'd never hide my thoughts. I'll tell em about occams razor, about bayes law, about the power of naturalism in our understanding of the world. I'd just never say "this is what it's like, no god, end of discussion". I won't give god ideas equal time, but I won't teach atheism either, whatever that means. If they ask questions, there'll always be - what do you think, and how do you know, how can you find out?

One thing though, if someone tells them about going to hell or some such nonsense, and they're scared, fuck critical thinking, it's made up crap, no need to worry.

Atheism is the better rational world view and always has. The amount of suffering killing and also rape, poverty and well and have the overall control of a persons thoughts always has been the religious views and well it holds some power people in Uganda and other countries suffered because of it.
Its not a good world view its not the most moral like atheism world view is but they try to get the point across that they are good they do good and the bible is good when its really not. I am a humanist everyone should be equal and the bible and religion want the opposite and some with the religious world view out there wanting to take peoples rights away because well a dirty old book mind you says so.
Atheism is a non-prophet organization join today.
