RE: Slavery and eating animals
More arbitrary restrictions and barriers for the omnipotent God to overcome?

So the biggest question is who was around before God, setting up all these obstacles, logic and parameters that would restrict him so much?

I'm sorry, did you just equate slavery to eating meat? I find that to be somewhat off. Or perhaps I've found a vegan.

RE: Slavery and eating animals
I'm a vegan, and I don't think farming animals is equal to slavery, but it sure does share a lot of aspects. Ownership, life having monetary value, restrictions on movement and activity, using superior power to control, cruelty seen as means to an end. I believe in trying to, as far as possible, not do anything to animals we wouldn't do to humans. I know this is an impossible ideal, but that is what I aspire to.

I thought that was where this argument was going to go, but sadly it's just another jesus excuse.

I clearly am not your typical "vegan" vegan, though because I don't go around saying that I'm vegan on websites, or saying I'm vegan to draw attention to the fact that I am actually not just vegan, but a vegan.

It's hard work being a vegan, but things are slowly getting better for all vegans, including me (as a vegan). Being vegetarian has become accepted and even fairly easy in England, and finally the vegan market for vegans is being recognized and there are some vegan restaurants, many more vegan products and even a vegan supermarket.

Fucking hard work. And I have Crohn's Disease, which has caused problems with my intestines meaning I can only eat things with very low fibre. So my diet really is ridiculously limited.

I was thinking of writing a topic a while back about the similarities between atheism and veganism. I have a lot of ideas. Didn't know how well it would go down.

If you like being a vegan more power to you. I don't care. But I find the analogy somewhat flawed somehow. How would a cow live naturally? It would graze on grass before being brought down by a cougar, wolf, or a very lucky coyote and being eaten while still alive. A bullet through the head is a much kinder end. A human owning another human is an unnatural abomination perpetuated by a desire for free labor. I understand the aversion to killing animals, I just don't share it. So long as the animal lived the kind of life it would prefer and was happy I don't see a problem with killing it humanely and eating it.

And as such I don't understand the point of the op. Why would any of this affect the divinity of Jesus? Either he was or he wasn't. Either he existed or he didn't. His views on slavery and eating meat are irrelevant to that.

Ah, you don't wanna go down that route with me Wink I've spent my whole life dealing with arguments like that and I could go on for pages. I don't think it's worth it. Let's agree to disagree Smile You said you don't care much care if animals are killed, so there's not much more to say.

But I agree with you, the OP makes no sense at all.

Just going to leave this here:

'You can have all the faith you want in spirits, and the afterlife, and heaven and hell, but when it comes to this world, don't be an idiot. Cause you can tell me you put your faith in God to put you through the day, but when it comes time to cross the road, I know you look both ways.' - Dr House

“Young earth creationism is essentially the position that all of modern science, 90% of living scientists and 98% of living biologists, all major university biology departments, every major science journal, the American Academy of Sciences, and every major science organization in the world, are all wrong regarding the origins and development of life….but one particular tribe of uneducated, bronze aged, goat herders got it exactly right.” - Chuck Easttom

RE: Slavery and eating animals
On the issue of animal rights, I've been trying to cut back on meat. Mostly I try to eat eggs, yogurt, and shellfish, because that seems good enough to me. I don't think shrimp are self aware in the same way as birds and mammals. I buy the eggs that say the chickens are free to run around. Anyway that is my strategy. Smile

In the future the artificial meat should provide a human alternative. (OOPS I meant to say "humane alternative" - maybe this betrays my secret desire to practice cannibalism. Smile )

@robvalue, have you read about fecal transplants? I have minor digestive problems too - especially with wheat, oats, etc. I've found rice doesn't bother me. I suspect it is the GMO or maybe some of the microbes in my intestines died-off. I used to be able to eat anything.
