So, that's not even half of American christians. I mean, not every republican is a hardcore republican and then there are others as well.
I really hope you do your homework before you pick up your pen.

I don't believe in horrific aliens from outer space who feast on the fear-rush of dying children, but that didn't keep me from enjoying It for what it was, a goddamned good read.
IT was a good read, but there is a bit of knowledge required in writing believable characters. As an example if I wrote an American Christian character who DIDN'T think country was important, a lot of American Christians would find that hard to accept as a believable Christian. You're right in that a story doesn't have to be logical necessarily in it's realism, after all there's no Hockey Mask wearing supernatural zombie running around taking axes to the face either, but the characters surrounding that ARE important or the story falls flat.

DBP: yeah, if the character is written to be a shit to try and make atheists look bad, that is a cheap trick.

(Hint: "Atheists" tend to value most of the same things that most folks value...because we're just people. People that just happen to lack a belief in god.)
In every country and every age, the priest had been hostile to Liberty.

Not necessarily, there are quite a number of members here who used to be devout believers in various faiths, christians included. They all 'learnt' that god doesn't exist and generally they seem to be pretty well balanced and quite happy about the whole thing. If you ask them, they will confirm this.
Anyway for what it's worth, I gave this a bit of thought and decided that family, health and mind would be my choices. If I were to be purely materialistic then right now perhaps losing my PS4, "Introduction to modern astrophysics" book and a pint of Guiness would get me pretty riled. This is one English atheists opinion only of course.

I would still like to see you address the contradiction I pointed out.

Awesome, thank you for that. I'd be pretty pissed if my Xbox One broke lol. Actually materialism is something that I hadn't considered and would HUGELY detrimental in our current society I think. Imagine not being able to go to the store and just get whatever you want anymore, or having the knowledge that no new video games were ever going to get made.
This was an awesome post, thank you!

As an example, if a Christian were to learn tomorrow without a shadow of a doubt that God didn't exist, or their entire family died, or the country were to fall apart then suicide while not a guarantee would become a possibility.
So Christians are so brainwashed that a truth that does not fit into their little world would be a cause for self murder.
I have never been a Christian and find this apparent fault in their belief system disturbing.
Quote:I'm not sure a person can lose the ability to be skeptical, debating maybe if they lost their ability to speak I suppose. Anyway, thank you.
Sure they can. lots of things can make you lose scepticism.
Wishful thinking is a big one, like saying you don't want to die then someone says life can somehow go on. Wouldn't you cling to that?
Oh and alchohol.

Are you talking about me using "there" instead of "their?" Is that the contradiction you're referring to? I understand the difference between the two, I'm typing fast and working at my job at the same time. It was a small grammar mistake get over it.

I think it would be stupidity compounded to commit suicide after finding out your god or gods don't exist. You are faced with the fact that there is nothing after you die, so you want to hurt up and end that incredibly small (on the cosmic scale) slice of existence you have? Are believers really that stupid? Not all of them, some are EX-believers.
