My wife says: they went to heaven, the mercy of God would save them / the blood of Jesus was retroactive.
Chapter and verse, please.
The granting of a pardon is an imputation of guilt, and the acceptance a confession of it.

The same as everyone else ever? Notwithstanding the non-birth of Jesus, of course.
At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist. This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair. Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second. That means there's a situation vacant.'

If they were all going to heaven pre jesus, pretty selfish of jesus to turn up and put the majority of mankind in peril.
Yet another thing I can nail him on with a nail.

I thought about this just a bit ago before I got out of bed.
You guys, with your absurd monster character of God, which you rebel against, are actually in better shape than the Muslims who also have an absurd monster character of God, but who, in their stupid self righteousness create a twisted character of themselves.
A verse came to me last night on this:
"He has shown you O man- what is good and what does the Lord require, but to do justly, and to love mercy,
and to walk humbly with your God".
This was out of the mouth of one of the prophets to the Jews, but unchanging principles are there.
Justice, Mercy and Humility.
Humility gives access to the first two.
God looks at the inner person. He who is given little- little is required of.
You know the rest.
Now, on the question of why give a higher truth- to which one is responsible to, when rejecting it brings greater judgement?
Excellent question and one which is not answered directly in the bible.
Therefore, I can only give my perception:
1) God IS Truth.
2)Truth is relentless in it's desire to be sought after, and thus manifested.
3)Those people who go to Heaven by the skin of their teeth have no reward other than getting there.
God wants us to attain rewards that are eternal, and these come by doing loving acts of kindness, and BECAUSE of love for Him.
There are different positions in Heaven- just as there are here.
Every good parent desires their kid to grow up into responsibility and success.
How much more so the Creator.

If they sacrificed enough animals, and their first-borns at one point, then they'd get in. Now you don't have to sacrifice animals and children. You just accept Jesus into your heart.

Prof, could you explain what about the character of the god of the bible isn't cruel?
He floods, kills, condones and encourages genocide and rape. How is it not cruel?
He chose to reveal himself to one tribe in the Middle East, completely ignoring the rest of the world and sentencing them to hell.
If you're trying to go with the "god is justice, therefore whatever he does is just" excuse, firstly it is a disgusting way of rationalising atrocities and secondly it doesn't hold any water when you combine it with the claim that morality comes from god.
Does it not say "thou shalt not kill"? Why then doesn't god follow his own standards? Where did that rule come from if god has no respect for it?
The bit when god tells Abraham to kill his son always confused me. When you ask theists what would they do if god told them to kill their family they say god wouldn't say that -- but he did in the bible. And Abraham was rewarded for almost killing his only child.
And as for the non Jews before Jesus, I believe they died, as has 99% of everything that's ever lived and have been dead since.

OK Norm, Let's begin in the pre-flood world.
The fallen angels had bred with women given birth to the Nephelem, part human, part demonic.
The result was catastrophic evil and bloodshed, it was stated that the inclination of every heart was evil- and that- continually.
Noah, however was genetically uncorrupted, we do not know about his kids or their wives or his wife.
Something must have gotten thru because the tribes that occupied the land of Israel were described as "Vampire-like demons"
and, just as in the Flood, were wiped out by command of God (this time by Israel).
Satan's desire was to corrupt ALL of humanity, thus killing God's plan.
The command to not kill is the command to not murder.
There is a difference between murder and execution.
God told Abraham to go and do what the heathen all around the world were doing.
Murdering their own kids.
Abraham said, "God will provide the sacrifice".
He knew the nature of God and trusted Him enough to go and begin to do what he knew God did not want.
SO that YOU would have a picture (a shadow and type) of what God would do in YOUR place by the sacrifice of Christ.
Yes, God chose that one little tribe to provide a conduit for His God-man to come and take the punishment we all deserve-
to ransom us from our rebellious destiny.
Brilliant plan and execution.
