At some forums they have a "ban me" thread where one can request to be banned for a period of time. Say you have finals or something so you request a 1 week ban. I'd like a month ban please.
I wouldn't exactly call myself obsessive or addicted to af.org or facebook, but I do check both multiple times a day. I might not always post, but I do
check them. And last year when work got really crazy and a deadline came in that I had to buckle down and hit I didn't ask for a ban to prevent myself from logging into af.org, nor did I shut down my fb to prevent myself from checking it, I just exercised self-control and didn't check them as often, and when I did checked them I gave myself time limits and told myself I wouldn't respond to posts that could suck me into long, drawn out conversations.
It's really not that hard to do this - unless you have an obsessive personality disorder of some kind (and if that's the case seek professional help).
What Heywood's request sounds like to me is the kid who wants to storm off with his ball, but also wants to look victimized by everyone else not letting him take the ball with him when he leaves.
If you want to take a break, just take one. There's no need to make such a public spectacle of this - which leads me to conclude that the public spectacle is calculated and part of Heywood's whole plan.
