I will say this I agree with Chad, what real difference does it make and how relevant can this question be, you can't be an atheist an believe in a god of any kind.

Hint: What do you think those around us believe? What kind of theists most commonly come to this site?
If there is a god, I want to believe that there is a god. If there is not a god, I want to believe that there is no god.

Oh, but isn't that the ONLY god? Are you a polytheist now? Tell us what other deities you worship and we'll fight those...

And there is the answer I was expecting from you. Thanks for not letting me down.
It couldn't possibly be that the vast majority of us, and vocal atheists in general. live in the Western world, dominated by Christianity? Or the vast majority of theists that post here are Christians?
Nah...
How old are you?
You'd believe if you just opened your heart" is a terrible argument for religion. It's basically saying, "If you bias yourself enough, you can convince yourself that this is true." If religion were true, people wouldn't need faith to believe it -- it would be supported by good evidence.

Physical age or mental age? Place your bets.
Atheism is a response to theism. It's hardly our fault if the theists we net are mostly xtian flavoured, now is it?
At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist. This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair. Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second. That means there's a situation vacant.'

It's a good question.
It seems to me a lot of Christians cannot seperate the notions of god(s) and "my god". But then I suppose every religion simply views other gods as made up and imaginary. We just go one further.
Any and all gods are very welcome to come interact with me like sensible thinking agents do. If they choose not to, then that's that. I'm not rooting around in everyone's arse crack looking for clues, nor am I interested in people presuming to speak for these gods. Yes, even if they carry around a storybook.

God loves those who believe and those who do not and the same goes for me, you have no choice in this matter. That puts the matter of total free will to rest.

Most of us discuss the Christian religion because we live in communities or societies where that is the dominant religion, and it is the one we were most exposed to. Someone in another part of the world may be much more conversant with Islam or other religions and would spend more time discussing those instead.
In any case, none of us fight against any god. To the believer it may seem that way, but my dismissal of Yahweh is not much different than your dismissal of any other mythical figure. If you rejected someone's claim that Yeti was real and he said you were "just angry at Yeti, so you struggle against him" you would (hopefully) laugh at him for claiming such a thing. Even the people who seem to "hate god" are usually angry at other people, who they either abuse verbally or try to provoke by making claims about their beliefs and their gods. For example, Minimalist has insulted god in pretty much every possible way on this discussion board. Now ask yourself: how many times have theists responded to his rants, and how many times has god?
"Well, evolution is a theory. It is also a fact. And facts and theories are different things, not rungs in a hierarchy of increasing certainty. Facts are the world's data. Theories are structures of ideas that explain and interpret facts. Facts don't go away when scientists debate rival theories to explain them. Einstein's theory of gravitation replaced Newton's in this century, but apples didn't suspend themselves in midair, pending the outcome. And humans evolved from ape- like ancestors whether they did so by Darwin's proposed mechanism or by some other yet to be discovered."

In what universe was that a valid response to what was said to you?
