DUBLIN (AP) - A new investigation into the Catholic Church's chronic cover-up of child abuse found Wednesday that a rural diocese and its bishop ignored Irish church rules requiring all suspected molestation cases to be reported to police - and the Vatican encouraged this concealment.

The government, which ordered the probe into 1996-2009 cover-ups in the County Cork diocese of Cloyne, warned that parishes across Ireland could pose a continuing danger to children's welfare today given Cloyne's claims to be following church child-protection policy while actually ignoring it.

Justice Minister Alan Shatter pledged to pass a new law making it an imprisonable crime to withhold knowledge of suspected child abuse as he published the investigation into the Cloyne diocese in southwest Ireland.

Shatter said previous pledges by Irish church leaders to place Irish civil law first and report all abuse cases dating back to 1995 had been "built on sand." He said it was an open question whether other dioceses, 23 of which have yet to be investigated, were still withholding evidence of crimes and presenting an ongoing threat to children.

The 341-page Cloyne report is the fourth state fact-finding probe into how church leaders for decades protected their own reputation - and their own pedophile staff members from the law - at the expense of Irish children. A string of scandals and revelations since 1994 has decimated the church's reputation and standing in this once-devoutly Catholic nation

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) – A Catholic school principal is the focus of controversy in the Bronx after a published report revealed his writings and views were tied to white supremacy.

Frank Borzellieri was hired as the principal of Our Lady of Mount Carmel School in 2009 by Rev. Eric Rapaglia. The two had previously worked together at St. Barnabas.

In 2004, Borzellieri authored a book called “Don’t Take it Personally: Race, Immigration, Crime and Other Heresies.”

Borzellieri wrote “diversity is a weakness” and claims increasing black and Hispanic populations in the United States will lead to what he calls a “new dark age.”

I imagine that Herr Von Popenfuhrer thinks this is an improvement!

Australia's Roman Catholic Church has issued an apology for its role in the forced adoptions of babies from unmarried mothers during the 1950s, 60s and 70s, a practise that has been described as a "national disgrace".

TORONTO (AP) - A Canadian Roman Catholic bishop betrayed little emotion during his sentencing hearing Thursday as a court was told his laptop contained hundreds of pornographic images of young boys, including photos of torture.

Bishop Raymond Lahey, 71, sat quietly, his right hand trembling slightly as he ran his index finger along his lips and chin, as Detective Andrew Thompson told the court that almost 600 photos, mostly of young teen boys, were found on Lahey's laptop and hand-held device when he arrested in 2009.

Why is that surprising, he's a catholic...it would always have included torture. Torture is one of the pillars of the catholic faith. I fail to see the distinction between pornographic depictions of torture, and the daily business of having a catholic sort of faith. The Church has made it plainly clear that as long as it's god (or, apparently a priest) doing the poking, it's not abhorrent per se.

I find it very difficult to rule out the possibility of a priest fantasizing about the boy he's fucking going to hell for being homosexual. I don't imagine that said priest suffers any sort of dissonance whatsoever. Until someone convinces me otherwise I will maintain that said priest is capable of exercising both his faith and his groin simultaneously.

In light of that, nothing these bastards do surprises me. It's hard to follow shit like the inquisition, but that doesn't seem to have stopped them from trying does it?

I mean, child porn in itself is just plain wrong, and enjoying seeing pictures of torture is sick in any context, but torture of children ?? Celibacy is the stupidest idea ever thought of...this is just...puke-inducing.

Good news though: those scandals coming to light have REALLY hurt church attendance, which means they have less money and less influence...

In an open letter, Cardinal O’Malley said he had decided to publish a list of 132 priests and two deacons “after serious and thoughtful consideration and prayer.” They include priests whom the church or courts have found guilty of sexually abusing a child, others who left the priesthood before or after accusations of abuse and dead priests who have been publicly accused of abuse.

But...as if 132 pervert priests wasn't enough....

The names of an additional 91 accused diocesan priests have not been listed. They include 62 dead priests who have not been publicly accused and 22, mostly still alive, who have not been publicly accused and could not be proved to have molested children. Cardinal O’Malley also chose not to publish the names of clergy members belonging to religious orders or other dioceses who were accused of sexual abuse while working in the Boston Archdiocese.

The number soars over 200. And the still seem to be protecting plenty of the fuckers.
