So, we'll assume I'm starting with the world we have, and working backward from there.
I don't want a god that causes childhood illnesses like Tay Sachs, and I don't really want one that "allows" it for "mysterious reasons". No "fallen world" bullshit, either, because that's just kicking the "mysterious ways" can back a step.
I like the idea of a heaven (or something similar), despite the concept of living for forever being kind of weird. Hell is just fucking terrible, and even less excusable than any of the explanations for stuff like Tay Sachs.
I don't specifically care if this god made the universe or not, but if it has that kind of power, we're going to run into annoying Tay Sachs problems again. So, it's probably best if he has no power in this universe.
Conclusion: this "god" would basically have to exist in some dimension outside of our universe (we'll call this place "Heaven"). God cannot affect our universe, so he can't cause or prevent problems. Still, he feels sorry for us and would like us to have a better existence. He does have the power to attach "souls" to us, so when we die, we can go to Heaven, which is much better than Earth.
And even that is a pretty stupid concept of a god. I certainly wouldn't want to "worship" it, but at least I could accept it on moral grounds.
