I certainly don't think Americans invented violence, but you sure love the phrase "war on..."
Also, your murder rate is way higher than any other first world nation, so there is that.
We particularly enjoy using the phrase when the thing being referred to is absolutely not a war..and, conversely, we like to call wars anything but "war"...so, I can understand the confusion.
