Don't get me wrong..I can think of reasons why the smollet case is a shame. It's a shame that we live in a country where it might seem like the best chance you have at a raise is to be the victim of a hatecrime.
So your argument is that because other people get away with shit, Smollett shouldn't be punished harshly?
Not really, but there's something to be said for equality under law even when that equality expresses itself as evading consequence. If we're going to have a discussion about how it's a shame that this or that person doesn't get the book thrown at them then we'd better be in the habit of consistently throwing books. I'm simply noting that we aren't, and that probably -is- a shame.
