Exactly. Some religious people assume that atheists tend to think in terms of "accepted authorities", because the whole concept of "revealed religions" is basically an appeal to a (cosmic) authority. It's a form of psychological projection.
To be sure, a lot of atheists do rely on borrowed or cliched arguments (albeit typically valid ones), many of which they might have got from atheist books like The God Delusion, but that's not the same thing as an appeal to authority.
