John Clese once had a similar observation with certain stupid American politicians who seem to be so smug, who fail to understand just how idiotic they look. He speculated that the problem is that you have to have some degree of knowledge to know what you don't know or a certain amount of skill in something to know what you're not good at doing it. There are some people who are so inept at comedy that they have no idea they're not funny. There are some people who are so stupid they have no idea they're not bright and should stay away from the camera.
I think there may be something to his hypothesis. It would explain all the creationists who crap all over the proverbial chess board during the debate and then fly off to boast of their glorious victory.
