See...what you do is plant some rye at the base of a nice thick tree (in which you place your stand) and then scatter a shitload of corn on the ground (preferrably dusted with apple powder) then you just wait to blast the first dipshit who comes within - maybe 15 feet- of you. You can get a really clean shot that way, no struggling, no kicking around in pain, just dead. Also saves you the trouble of chasing a wounded animal through the brush - cuz lets face it, no one wants to have to chase their dinner through snake country.
I've always wanted to go hunting with a black-powder muzzle-loader rifle. The reason is pretty simple; it's a test of your accuracy. You nail that first shot, because if you don't, you aren't bagging anything for thirty minutes. The gunshot is loud, and reloading takes a while, so if you miss that first shot, you're scaring off the game you're aiming at and any game within hearing, too. No quickly cycling a bolt for another shot; one and done. It's what I've always loved about firearms is the test of accuracy, of trying to master precision, in the variable ways. I figure black-powder rifle hunting would be the ultimate test of accuracy with a firearm.
