Obviously the Republicans realized how shitty they look in front of the American people, otherwise they'd not have caved. They're too smart to realize that polls putting the blame for the shutdown on Republican shoulders translate into votes come next November and two years after that. They can only hope that voters forget who caused the shutdown and keep trying to blame Obama for it.
