So I should stop joking about one thing that (very likely) doesn't exist, when it is in reference to another things that (very likely) doesn't exist?
That makes complete sense...

You are currently experiencing a lucky and very brief window of awareness, sandwiched in between two periods of timeless and utter nothingness. So why not make the most of it, and stop wasting your life away trying to convince other people that there is something else? The reality is obvious.
The avatar is great!

All you have to do is search "cock shaped plants/vegetables" and you'll have an endless supply of avatars.
Ahahahahahahaha!

I think with a certain type of fundamentalist, you should tread carefully. This isn't a matter of respecting them. Its about limited their powers to show "evidence" of atheist evil. In the same way, do you think that a Muslim who jokes about bombing things in the current climate is a smart thing to do?

If you’re going to watch tele, you should watch Scooby Doo. That show was so cool because every time there’s a church with a ghoul, or a ghost in a school. They looked beneath the mask and what was inside? The f**king janitor or the dude who runs the waterslide. Throughout history every mystery. Ever solved has turned out to be. Not Magic. ― Tim Minchin, Storm
Ungodlyfossil (a German with now-dead family who actually participated) makes Nazi jokes at me all the time simply because I'm Jewish. He frequently makes me laugh so hard I nearly puke. WTF is the difference?
Is he supposed to worry that he makes all Germans look bad?
I was being sarcastic when I addressed NAC, just in case somebody wondered. I spend my entire life being respectful to Christians in real life. This is the place where I come to say things I actually think. I am glad it's here, else my head might explode.

But that's what I'm saying - if we make jokes about it, how is that any different? We're not protecting their sensibilities, and any joke can be misleading if the person doesn't have a sense of humor.
People who are too stupid and self-centered to take humans on an individual basis will allow the smallest thing - no matter how well behaved - to color their perception of the group. It doesn't matter if I never made another baby-eating joke again - if I said so much as a cross word about anything, some fundy could say "All Jews are mean" or "All atheists are mean." We should be bridging the divide by teaching each other how we're similar and mocking stupidity. Making people laugh at their own retardation is an excellent ice breaker.
That's extremely valid. Clearly mine is not a view shared by many, no harm in that. Don't mean to get peoples backs up, I tried to go out of my way to say I wasn't demanding or insisting that it should be heeded, simply my view on it.
Like I said, a muslim playing up to the stereotype of being a bomber can be funny, but misinterpreted by the ignorant. I don't think its helpful, nor an icebreaker in that specific instance. A lot of people seem to be taking this view as about humour in general when that couldn't be further from the truth. On reflection, perhaps there is much to be said that it has little effect and we will be tarred with the brush regardless of what we actually say.
