the bible does say that the truth shall set you free...if I remember it correctly. Haven't read it in awhile.

Well you know what they say about the bible. It's like war. Long stretches of boredom punctuated by moments of sheer terror. One of the worst reads of my life. If I'm doing mythology I much prefer the Odyssey. Those Greeks knew how to hold a man's attention!

Personally I'm not convinced that Jesus as a person ever really existed. And frankly I don't give a crap any more than I care if Mohammed was a real person or not.
Christian apologetics is the art of rolling a dog turd in sugar and selling it as a donut.

I can't be bothered to debate whether Jesus or Mohammed existed. It's utterly immaterial whether there ever was or wasn't any specific X son of young whore Y. The key point is fact finding techniques far superior to what can be conceived by the legions of faithhead through the ages argues against the existence of any divinity in any such said person, and that's all there is to it as far as their relevence is concerned.

We don't believe they were divine, we can't tell if they existed, such non-divine virtues they might have had had they existed sounds laudible, but were quite run of the mill within the context of the entire breadth of human experience.

So you are a sorry fuck if you elevate them above yourself, and you are a revolting misanthrope if you elevate them above your fellow men.

My personal opinion is that Mohammed and Jesus did exist.

They probably did influence a subsection of the community as Sai Baba used to do in his lifetime. Looking 20-30 years down the line, his status from a spiritual guru to a god will be facilitated from the various exaggerations that would be transmitted down the generations by folk lore, books and personal bias.

Quite.
Problem is that there are so fucking many of those morons! And procreating like lemmings. Fertile soil to seed BS in.
Education, information and 'evangelization' (on real facts, their relationships and effects) are the only way, in the long run, to meaningfully, and enduringly reduce that number, imo.

So, really, what are we doing here? Preaching to the converted!

You can say a lot about the Xtian church, but with their 1,700 years of experience they are of course the authority in the art of organizing, executing, and exploiting the concept of "the mission" (as in 'missionaries'). The "fishing for souls".
If the opposition ever wants to be effective it will have to take a leaf from that book too and learn how to organize, execute, and exploit their own "mission".
The "mission of faith" needs to be battled by a "mission of reason and empathy".

Yeah, right!

You do understand the NT is a collection of separate books and letters do you not? As such everything written about Jesus is either apart of the NT or it is considered to be a supporting book of the bible.

That is like asking, apart from maintenance manuals what books are there that will help me fix my car??? Everything written in a book, on diagnosing and repairing cars is considered to be a Maintenance manual.

In turn Everything Written on Jesus is either In the Bible or considered A religious text!

Otherwise show me one instance where it is not...Wink
