Prayer in School

I don't care if someone prays in public, as long as they are forcing anyone to pray with them. However, if they school sets aside any time specifically for prayer during school hours, a line has been crossed. If they want to do that, they can do it before school, after school or privately.

Well what about the Moslem students who have prayer times that fall during school hours?

I am not okay with this. I was subjected to it in high school. There was a teacher-led group of students who would participate in public prayer every morning before class in front of the school, and in bible study/discussion after the day had ended. The students put up signs all over the halls (which is fine, since they're students and not staff) and the whole thing was made very public. It was more than that they wanted to pray and worship, they wanted us to see them do it. I don't necessarily think they shouldn't have been allowed to meet, but it was this in-your-face presentation that got to me. They kind of presented themselves as recruiters for Christ, which I think at a public school is completely inappropriate.

That is the problem. Religious activity in public school wouldn't be a bad thing if it could be completely reserved for the religious, however that is rarely the case. It often ends up being waved around and shoved in everyone's face, especially if you're non-religious. I had to put up with a lot of crap in high school because of my beliefs. Even from teachers.

Religions like Christianity can not exist without excreting pressure for others to conform it itself. So the only acceptable public expression of Christianity is no discernible expression whatsoever.

So by that logic, homosexuals cannot kiss each other in public.

Then they may excuse themselves to the bathroom or whatever. Class time will not stop for them.

Well you do have a point there, but there are many of faith who don't absolutely want everyone to follow their faith, but just want their faith to be accepted just as there are many homosexuals who want their homosexuality to be accepted as well.

See, I don't see the world in the eyes of uniformity, but in the eyes of acceptance and tolerance.

For example, I was offended that a public school prevented Moslems from being able to ritually clean themselves at school, which is required by their faith, even though I do not believe Islam is the correct religion.
