You can solve an awful lot with guns. It just causes extra problems.

Governments rule and maintain order, such as it is, via a monopoly on violence. That monopoly is enforced with guns. Yes, guns solve problems as well as create them.

According to this web site, there were 17,000 homicides in the US in 2007:

According to this web site, about 68% of homicides are committed with firearms:

That means there are about 11,600 homicides by firearms per year in the US, or about 32 per day.

This figure doesn't include non-fatal shootings, or suicides by firearms. According to the following, there are about 75,000 non-fatal shootings per year (both deliberate and accidental) and about 17,000 suicides with firearms per year:

(Interestingly, the majority of deaths by firearms are self-inflicted.)

Altogether, that's an average of 284 people killed or injured by firearms every day.

So Atheist what makes this case more newsworthy than the other 283 shootings that day?

By the way, one of the sites I googled this shooting on described the shooter as a gay terrorist.

I don't care. People who do this are either mentally ill or delusional and narcissistic. They couldn't cut it in their regular lives, are in pain and want everyone else to pay for their pain. Even Bin Laden did this. His beef was not with the west as much as it was with his own royal family who shunned his offered "help" in dealing with the west. Bin Laden was showing off to his parents.

hmmmmm.....Bin Laden was in pain. Yet he had no beef with the west. But couldn't cut it in his regular life. So he planned out and attacked the west bringing down the twin towers with an incredible loss of life because he had a beef with his own family and wanted to show off to his parents?....hmmmmm
