If he objects to the marriage and provides no reason for it then she can still get married. The gaurdian isn't there to hamper the women but to protect her. You misunderstand. Mohammed was idolised as a prophet in his time, of course anyone and everyone would be very keen to get him to marry their daughter. Mohammed here makes no mention of morality... by marryine a girl of 9 where modern society clearly judges this to be innapropriate at best, and abusive at worst. RE: What things are bad in Islam?

While I recognise and agree with the absurdity of judging another and earlier culture with our modern Western standards, let's just recap a little here.
(January 21, 2013 at 6:17 am)Confused Ape Wrote: I'm not defending Muhammed's marriage to Aisha here because he could have changed the custom but didn't. I'm guessing it's because he was a man of his place and time so the custom seemed so 'normal' that he didn't think about it. Just as Confused Ape says, Muhammad could have changed the custom of his day, but didn't. So what we end up with is a revered religious figure with a divine revelation who apparently wasn't enlightened enough to figure out what we now hold to be abhorrent. Clearly he didn't think of it; doesn't anyone feel that, as a messenger of a god, perhaps he should have?
At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist. This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair. Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second. That means there's a situation vacant.'
This is the essential problem with theism. A god which chooses expediency, over morality looses the right to judge.
If morality is unchanging there can be no defence that it was good at this time and not that. If on the other hand morality depends on the situation claims for constant judge fall apart. Either way the the theist view of a constant good judge is impossible to support.

Why does a women need to get approval from a guardian and why doesn't a man need approval from a guardian?(sexiest) Can you please back up you statement "In pre-islamic times men just married women against there will." Protect her from what exactly? What about the man's protection? Why not 2 female witnesses? Why not a groom gift?
which hadith or quran verse did you get the info about jizyah? just wondering
Are you ready for the fire? We are firemen. WE ARE FIREMEN! The heat doesn’t bother us. We live in the heat. We train in the heat. It tells us that we’re ready, we’re at home, we’re where we’re supposed to be. Flames don’t intimidate us. What do we do? We control the flame. We control them. We move the flames where we want to. And then we extinguish them. Impersonation is treason. |
