My dad bought into feminist values to a large degree and there was a sense that equality between genders was something that was stressed.
Was this the right way to run a family? Well, it created a lot of problems, as I said, there was a lot of chaos. Men and women are biologically different and there is biblical evidence for treating them as being different, although many Christians do not read the Bible the way that the man in the video said.
And families headed by men are never chaotic or full of fighting, right? There are a lot of reasons that families break down.

This is a typical atheist lie, that in order to be a Christian, you have to read the Bible and take every single thing literally, and not study the traditions and culture that informs the Word of God. Of course, the person on the video does not do this, he is more concerned with getting a laugh out of people than being accurate.
Honestly, even if the culture/time that the Bible was written in was so down on women, would it still be okay for the Bible to include passages so hateful towards women? I can't really imagine a scenario where it would be justified to write the things that are in the Bible.

To me it would seem pretty erroneous to discuss anything else, if you wanted to talk about Christianity.
Other Christian groups are individuals perspectives of Christianity, be it King Henry VIII, John Knox, Ted Haggard or whoever. They are only ever raised when someone wants to make a cheap shot about Christians, using one of their crazier, er, 'ideas'! lol

What a ridiculous thing to say. You need to understand something very important about the atheist perspective: we think that all churches are full of shit. To us, the message is never truthful, and thus what matters is not the age of the institution, but the real world effects that it's having. Oh, and incidentally, of the percentage of christians in the world, only just over half of those are catholics (according to the CIA's world factbook. ). So, there's roughly half the christian population who aren't; that's not exactly a tiny little divergence.
And by the way, each and every one of those non-catholic christians would say that you're just as wrongheaded in your beliefs as you say they are. How is any of this a cheap shot?
What it is, though, is a great way of avoiding talking about the real issue of this thread, isn't it?

Pretty standard theistic deflectionary tactic, really: "Oh, well my church doesn't agree with those things, and therefore your argument is completely invalid!"

Uh, maybe cause she's a sinner seeking salvation.
You have read that book haven't you? See here is the problem, you cant take yourself out of fan status. If women in other literature outside your bible were treated in such ways, I doubt you would find those books moral.
It uses a woman as a scapegoat for the fall of man for a garden God didn't have to put the tree in in the first place. It has rules on submission of women to men, how to punish them. And treats them like property in the 10 commandments in the same class as donkeys and slaves.
Take the puppetmaster hand out of your back. Look at it as if you were not a Christian. Look at it as if it were a new release at a bookstore.
The bible is not a friend to women at all. It treats them as mere property and props.

Age of something makes it credible? Really, then the sun really should be a god because the Ancient Egyptians falsely believed that for 3,000 years. And remember you are talking to a former Catholic here.
Others come and go and so will your superstition. Seriously, what do you think you are doing differently than all the other dead myths of the past?
If you are willing to accept DNA in a murder trial then you should understand why the magic baby story is bullshit. And no one survives rigor mortis either so that puts a damper on the death myth too.
