So if someone said "I do not believe in God so I avoid churches"
They wouldn't really be talking sense... I mean it is a non-sequitur really...
I see.
So no-one could ever be compelled to do something because they have no belief in God - it has no bearing in their actions...
That's deep!
Everyone agree?
So you hold no beliefs about god?
What do you know regarding God?

It may have bearing on their actions - but that has more to do with how people -rationalize- things..rather than what can actually be set to follow, from a to b. The same is sometimes done in the case of god belief (I'd say always).
See how that works?

Yeah - it's a non-sequitur: they think it but they are wrong: I see what you are saying.

Which is precisely what you would maintain when people do horrible things based upon their (differing) perception of your religion, correct?

No I think that people are complex and that differing beliefs do have an impact on behaviour.
I think it is due to beliefs about religion (maybe false ones) and beliefs about the way the world is that lead people to do things.
I think people believing that there is no bridge across a wide gap can lead people to not walk as if there is a bridge. I also believe that believing there is no God can make people do stuff like avoiding churches etc...
Crazy - I know...
Sorry for sarcasm - I fun it a bit low but its the done thing here...

Um, yeah, why would we go to church if we don't believe? Why would we want to be there?

Exactly!
I think your atheism has something to do with that - no?
According to Rhythm atheism has nothing to do with that behaviour - I think?

Which would be a salient observation, if the best we could muster about the status of a bridge over a gap were belief - but since it isn't - it is not. I don't have to have any belief regarding bridges, they're either there or they're not and knowledge of this will likely lead me to avoid putting one foot out over the cliff.
On the other hand, if someone truly believed the bridge was there when it was not and took that step.......

I know a way of gaining it. We should go pick a bridge sometime to test the method.
