Bibles in school

I'll see what happens. Thanks for the advice people!

SSA deals with these issues. I recommend contacting them for their opinion and recommendations.
They are a organization whom works with high school students.

Aww... I actually encountered this in school. There was a guy I was friendly with in class, but he ran with the "Christian" crowd. One day he said, "You're pretty cool. I'd ask you out, but what would my friends say?" I laugh about it now, but to my 15 year-old self, it was quite devastating. I wasn't a total outcast, though. I had my clique and a good sized group of friends. At one point a few of my friends discovered a bunch of us had been black listed by the local Baptist youth ministry. They had actually sat down during one of their meetings to discuss which kids in school were "bad influences" and should not be spoken to. I was #3 on the list Not sure if I was proud or ashamed of that... But I wore it like a badge of honor. It was kind of fun after that to go up to the Baptist kids and start talking to them and have them completely ignore you. Especially when we'd say things like, "Love your neighbor." or "Let he who is without sin, cast the first stone." They'd give you a very confused look and bustle off. Bloody hypocrites. P.S. To the OP, I've rethought my position, and it's slightly different... I think you should speak to the teacher directly, before raising a stink. At least give him/her a heads up and see if he/she will change his/her position. But if not... Then raise holy hell
Stupid amerikanskys and their "teach religion in public school" idiocy... -.-'
I wish you the best of luck and do try to remain calm when you talk to the teacher about that, if you follow festive's advice... If you decide to wait it out and there IS time to "teach" that thing... well, it's science class, right? Ask questions - How does "that thing" match up with the evidence for the age of the Earth? - How does "that thing" match up with the dinosaur fossils? - How does "that thing" match up with the age of the sun? - How does "that thing" match up with the age of the Universe? - Why are you being "taught" mythology in a science class? Shouldn't it belong in philosophy or history or something like that?
If Genesis is easily refutable, you should welcome having it read in class.

That's no reason for letting bible-thumping shitheads read their propaganda to a captive audience.
I know your kind prefers that.
Haha...CHICKEN! You guys act like tough shit on this forum, but IRL you're a bunch of pussies. Oooh, cry like a baby to the ACLU and have them fight your fights for you!
Personally, I believe the Bible should be read in schools... and treated with about as much respect as a book about zombies and talking animals deserves.

That being said, as a non-lawyer, I prefer to fight legal battles by engaging those who know what they are doing, i.e., lawyers. One could also hire their own attorney but the cost is prohibitive for all but the smallest of matters. Organizations exist for the very purpose of ensuring our elected officials follow the law as required. As in the case of the Jesus portrait hung in a public school, the school district will quickly learn how expensive it will be in money and subsequent taxpayer fury when they inevitably lose the case, should they be so foolish as to fight it. Unless the bible is being studied as part of a literature class, it has no business being "read" in a public school by a public school employee. Yes, we atheists want your children, your daughters and we're taking away Christmas too! Next, on the list? Toto the little dog. |
