The Congressional Budget Office on Tuesday slashed its budget deficit forecast for the current fiscal year ending Sept. 30 to $642 billion, a massive $203 billion cut from its estimate in February.

The non-partisan budget referee also estimated the deficit will drop to just $378 billion by 2015, or just 2.1 percent of gross domestic product (GDP).

The reduction is quicker than anyone would have thought possible just six months ago. That has tamped down concerns investors have about unsustainable debt levels hurting the economy, and lessened fears that partisan bickering in Washington over the budget and the federal debt limit will create massive uncertainty for financial markets.

I'm not a Christie fan, but I think a race between him and Hillary would be a very close call. Many people just don't like Hillary and Christie is very charismatic.

I don't think that Christie is fundie and far-right enough to get the nomination. Remember, they were running cunts like Bachmann and Santorum as serious contenders last year. And seeing as how they didn't seem to learn much from the election they'll likely keep on the same path and put up the most conservative people they can find. Their problem is that they have to appeal to the teabaggers to get the nomination, and then try to look like moderates to the general voting public. I'll be surprised if they have more moderate candidates in 2016.

We can only hope. You're right, if they run a hard right-winger they're not going to be able to carry the general election. Depends on if they get pragmatic or not... It looks like not, but they've still got time to get it together. And if the Greens run a good campaign that'll fuck with the Dems too...
