Egypt - Army seizes power.

Egypt - Army seizes power.
Not sure if this is good news or bad news.
Mubarak style leadership may return and democratic movements will be opressed.
But at least the islamists are away from power.

Not the worst thing in a place where "democracy" seems to mean "we can oppress anyone we don't like."

They are not ready. Until they ditch that muslim shit they probably never will be.

It's brutally simple, what they should do after the "muslim brotherhood" fiasco.
Forbid any religious political party.
Total separation of church and state.... as it was elsewhere... centuries ago... it's the way of the future.

What is to say the future belongs to enlightenment and progress, and not ignorance and regression?

Separation the church and state begins with high level of liberal arts education amongst the electorate. It is a symptom of a civil and enlightened society. It can not make a society civil and enlightened that otherwise wasn't already so.

Another hilariously idiotic post displaying your false perception of islam as some weirdish anti capitalist liberation theology.

I don't know if it is a good thing or a bad thing either.

1. I suspect if there is really a substantial moderate Islamic fractions that was prepared to accept the compromise required to participate in democracy, such fractions have just become disillusioned about whether any such compromises could ever actually do any good.

2. Egypt's problem is structural. While a bad government can worsen it, it would take a exceptionally good government to genuinely relieve it, I don't believe the army could solve the problem, nor is it likely that the army will relinquish power to someone who could. So whatever government finally results from this coup would, in my opinion, also neither last long nor build any sustainable social stability in Egypt. So what will take its place when it too falls?

Would you say the U.S.A. was a "civil and enlightened society" in that far off 4th of July?
