Right. Was there a need for them to?
Yes, so they wouldn't be punished for disobeying God. Why punish anyone for doing something wrong and not knowing any better?
Quote:Disagree, they were not ordered, they were given a commandment
OK, they weren't ordered, they were commanded. So what the fuck is the difference? I'm sure you'll want to argue semantics again, here's your chance.
Quote:Right, but the serpent lied to her. She knew what God had told her.
Actually the serpent told the truth while God is the one who lied. God said if they ate the fruit they'd die, and they did... after 900 more years.
And here come the Christians to claim that before they ate from the fruit there was no death. If that were true, then why did God say in Gen. 2:17 "in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die?" Sounds pretty clear that God was lying when he told Adam that he would die the day he ate from the tree of knowledge.
Christian apologetics is the art of rolling a dog turd in sugar and selling it as a donut.

Because the Bible is about the spiritual, doesn't it make sense the death would be spiritual. Oh, I forgot you are here to make mocker and lean nothing excuse me for trying to shoe you what God meant. Carry on with your mockery, we await your wisdom.
God loves those who believe and those who do not and the same goes for me, you have no choice in this matter. That puts the matter of total free will to rest.

I appears as though you do not have to pass a spelling test to be a Christian. hock:

I found this whole thread so fascinating. I guess because it brushes against my own beliefs very positively. God is all-knowing, so that simply means that it was his plan all along to have Adam and Eve fall from grace. They transgressed in the garden, and in so doing they learned right from wrong, which is essentially in learning what is and what isn't of God.
"Adam fell that man might be. Men are that they might have joy."

You're confused about the death that God spoke of in regards to Adam and Eve. Spiritual Death is to die in sin, and Adam was a righteous man. He was righteous because he learned through the Fall in the Garden of Eden what was right and what was wrong. Therefore, the death God spoke of was obviously a physical one.
Adam gained the ability to die once he consumed the fruit of the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil. Modern Prophets have learned that a day in Heaven is roughly 1000 years on Earth, so the fact that Adam died nearly 1000 years after he ate the fruit fits with God's proclamation that he would die that very day.

That was God's proclamation, according to the writers of The Holy Bible, not God himself.

Modern day revelation has shown that the writers weren't too far off from what actually happened there. Oh, and there was just one writer: Moses.

Such as.....
The Holy Bible says God created humans over the course of six days, when in fact human beings evolved from Homo Habilis, Homo Erectus, and Australopithicenes.
Nothing in the Holy Bible is based on any primary research.

Might've been nice if he'd done that without getting shitty and angry about it. The god you're describing is passive aggressive as all hell.

I am eager to see these "modern day revelations" this user writes of.

The Bible is flawed, plain and simple. This is why most Christians have a hard time reconciling the teachings and stories within it, and instead they focus on a few snippets here and there to cling to as their core doctrines. Cherry picking is bad, no matter how you look at it.
Science has revealed much, and because of that I take Evolution at face value, especially considering the extensive fossil record. I may not understand how it relates to the Genesis creation story entirely, but I do know that there are two instances in the book where God creates man. Since days in heaven are long periods of time on earth, it's possible that his creation of man started with the original spark of life, letting them evolve from lesser biological forms to what they later became. The order of creations in Genesis is also nonsensical, but that's understandable as this is a very old book that requires much interpretation when not understood by modern revelation.
As for the creation of Adam and Eve, this was an instantaneous thing. God created Adam from the dust of the Earth, and Eve was created from his Rib. Their creation was special since Adam was also the embodiment of Michael the Archangel, sent to Earth to be the first Patriarch and Prophet, and this is why they were separate from other creations.
Some of my understanding may be off from what actually happened, but I believe it will be possible to learn the truth of all things one day, if not in this life.
