I'm only at Genesis 25 and I already see that Abraham was a ball bag. I haven't found that it doesn't disprove God only that God shows favorites and to hell with everyone else - LITERALLY.

The creation story is rather good for paradoxes as well. God created plants before he created the sun. wtf!? Major issue there. While this doesn't show he is evil, it does put the validity of the bible in question.

Adam and Eve? Well, we know that is all made up. Some Christians try to get around this by saying it is symbolic. The issue is that if Adam and Eve did not eat the apple, there is no such thing as "original sin" and no reason for Jesus to die for us.

Other fun stories include:
Moses and the great escape from Egypt (killing all the first born sons is a bit much)
Noah. Yeah - let's destroy them all.
Sodom. Yeah - let's destroy some of them.

Try to keep count how many people God kills and how many Satan kills as well. It's fun Smile

It's always fun trying to read the opposite into something than it means.

Yep - you have to remember this as well MonkeyMan. When the bible said God destroyed everyone (and everything, including the cute puppies and kittens), it meant: "he gave them all a chocolate ice cream".

Just replace kill (and destroy) with chocolate ice cream and all the stories become much better. Smile

(It would not surprise me if Christians think this Smile)

Chicklet, you should try to understand your subject rather than accept the absurd superficial explanation. Smile

I believe that is what he is doing right now. If you would like to give us a good (understandable) explanation of why they portray god as an evil bastard in the bible feel free to contribute!

"They" portray God as equaling good. You read the opposite. That's all there is to say really.

I do not find people/things who kill/destroy/torture for no reason good. But I guess that is another way we are different Smile

Edit: deleted something that made no sense Smile

You're claiming to know as much as a god then Chicklet. I'm sorry to have underestimated you! Wink

I don't have time now, but let me say briefly...

Take the creation story. Many Christians hold the ignorant position that it is literal, in the sense that they take the English translated words at face value adding their modern scientific understanding to it.
They have produced zero exegetical proofs of this interpretation, so it stands naked. The actual literal explanation, on the other hand, has thorough exegetical support, in studies detailing comparative religious and cultural practices, language and understanding of the time, to come up with a very different meaning.

The former pretty much sums up the OPs method.

Hehe, yes. I think I can safely say that I know more than God about just about anything (not necessarily more than christians though)
