It's only the atheists who aren't joining in the fun now.

By "the fun", are you refering to the countless religious wars throughout history, including three major ones just this last century? Or the constant tension and discrimination between religions in certain countries and between countries?

Or maybe the fun is the wars and genocide committed by the great atheists of the world. Stalin killed ... 20million? Wonderful. Hitler 10 millionplus? How about Mao? A mere 50 million or so? Pol pot? Realy? Tojo? You want restart racking and stacking bodies? I'll bury you. You can't possibly argue that can you? With a straight face? The real travesty is your " no god since there are religious fanatics wars". any Christian would be first to say we are all sinners. We err. We war. But misguided religious fanatics don't make god bad! That's where that tired logic breaks down. There's no god cause people can be bad? Makes no sense. Look above though. Without god, who cares how many die? People don't have souls right? So they are a commodity? Just culling the herds in your mind! C'mon, man.

Are you actually going to contribute something to this forum, or just maniacally rant over strawmen?

Ooh, Tlipoca knows his way around google. Now, pop quizz, super genius: can you name a single one of those regimes who committed those atrocities in the name of atheism? Because the pertinent issue here is the motivating factor behind the bad stuff, else you're just indulging in a bit of mindless Hitler Ate Sugar.

It doesn't make him real, either. Wanna address that question?

What was it you said yesterday about not telling people what they believe?

Oh, and incidentally, you might want to check your PMs if you haven't already. Just sayin'.

Carried out mostly by current and former Orthodox Christians.

Carried out mostly by Christian Germans.

No you can't, for four reasons.

1: Judeo-Christians have been at it for 4000+ years and have not stopped.
2: "Atheists" have been at it for less than a hundred years and now? Secular nations are almost exclusively the most tolerant, friendly, safe, healthy and educated nations in the world.
3: Unless any of those men brought about their atrocities in the name of promoting atheism, and I know that none of them did, then you're guilty of false equivalence.
4: Even if everything you said was even close to correct, it doesn't change the fact that your religion has a violent, genocidal history. That doesn't stop being true just because there might be others.

Religious fanatics don't make god bad. The Bible makes god bad. Your religious fanatics aren't misguided. They're following the Bible's instructions.

That's funny, because Christianity has, without any question, been the most violent and destructive religion in the history of mankind. Their belief in a god and souls has never made a difference when it comes time to sharpen the swords. Yet, we have a virtually atheistic religion such as Buddhism which, even though it's older than Christianity and there are no gods, mysteriously lacks most of Christianity's bloodbaths and genocides.

Um I disagree. China and Japan hate each other and have had constant battles over history, both are full of Buddhists. The orient is just as sectarian and divided as western monotheism.

Humans are tribal no matter what their religious beliefs. Tibet is far too often associated with peaceful resistance, when the reality is that Buddhism has not left those who oppress them.

Our species has always been capable of cruelty and compassion. Which is also why I warn atheists not to go around saying "When we become the majority we will treat you better". No, as long as we are human, and we have short term memories as a species, we will forget and do what was done to us, to others.

I wish that you did not have an excellent point there, but unfortunately you have. That damned human nature thing. If we don't kill ourselves first someday we'll evolve past scrapping over tribal god images, my worry is that we'll continue to scrap over rival political philosophies. They have a nasty habit of becoming a substitute religion for many. Thinking

Don't get me wrong, you will never get rid of grouping or labels, but when you understand evolution, you can take away the poison which makes those things the priority, and put our common condition at the priority. It can allow us our jollies without killing over it.

Is that a recurrent war between competing sects of Buddhism or between two competing nation-states that happen to be Buddhist? There's a difference.

I'm aware that Buddhism has blood on its hands, but Buddhists certainly never wiped out and enslaved most of the native population of an entire hemisphere, either, and that's just one example. Christianity is based upon a doctrine of violence, and it's therefore no surprise that Christian peoples have been starting wars with and instigating petty violence and discrimination against pretty much everybody, including other Christians, virtually non-stop since it was established as a major religion. All of it, of course, leading up to some asinine final boss battle which is supposed to really make the body count soar.

WW1 and WW2 weren't religious wars.

When two purportedly 'Christian' nations are fighting each other, it isn't religion they are fighting over.

...unless the love of money and power (mammon worship) is a religion.
