The rest of the universe

This is a question for Christians.If God only really care so much about the earth why did he make the rest universe? I mean why is it there?

I voting for starships.

Eternal life.. Eternal expanse to explore, hmmm what will we do forever? Maybe go on a Star Trek of some sort.. Eeek! Dibs on the name enterprise! No bloody a, b, c or D!
