If there was a loving God, would you accept him?

RE: If there was a loving God, would you accept him?
I lack belief in any deity because there is no concrete proof that any deity exists. If concrete proof that a deity exists did turn up I'd have to accept that he/she/it existed no matter what kind of personality he/she/it had.

Loving is hardly an objective characteristic of God based on his deeds and dictates as portrayed in The Bible. For this reason I have to assume you're talking about some other god.

I thought existence is more salient than personality.

Can you explain what you mean by 'accept'? If you mean 'believe in', then yes, certainly, if one could be shown to exist I would be obliged to accept their existence.

If you mean accept as in accept them into my heart, ie worship them, I don't know. It would depend on their actions. I doubt it, on the basis that there's tons of real things in the world and I don't think I worship any of them. I admire a lot of people and find myself in awe of a lot of naturally occurring events, so a loving God could perhaps join the list of those things. They'd have to be doing some pretty extraordinary stuff in order to be worshipped.

I'll bite; hypotheticals can be fun.

If there were a god, loving or not, and it was demonstrated beyond all possible doubt (since the affirmation would be so world-altering) to be such a creature, I would have no choice but to accept it as a reality. However, note that crucial caveat in the middle there: "demonstrated" - because that's the word that believers and associated proselytisers have trouble with.
At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist.  This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair.  Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second.  That means there's a situation vacant.'

You'll get no argument from me on that point. I'm assuming our new friend won't be convinced with the 'no evidence' tack; therefore, I thought I would amuse myself by shitting on the ubiquitous loving God canard.

I would like to propose the following question to those who are Atheist:

If there was a loving God, would you accept him? Please explain why or why not.

I assume you mean something along the lines of 'if I were presented with convincing evidence that said God exists and is genuinely loving rather than as cruel as depicted by many of the people who already accept it'. Sure, I can accept facts.
I'm not anti-Christian. I'm anti-stupid.

Dear Nathan,

There is no atheist belief system. There is simply no evidence for any of the gods humanity has invented in its slow climb up from lower life forms.

This also applies to your god....which ever one it may be.

When I hear this I wonder what you would say if there was no god but there was a cosmic mammy who loved you dearly and would keep you with her forever so that she could kiss your forehead everyday and rock you in her arms. Sound appealing? This is pretty much the sense of revulsion I get at the thought of being Skydaddy's good boy. No thanks. I'm all grown up here.

I have a question along these lines. Say our knowledge of God was an innate type, would you accept it as credible, or would you only take his existence seriously if he proved his existence in some empirical fashion?

I think this is the question I asked myself when I left Islam. Do I need proof outside innate experience or is innate knowledge a possible proof of his existence? I chose the latter. Then I asked myself to whether I had this knowledge or not.

I would accept a loving leprechaun if it existed. I haven't seen one yet so I am still a non believer.
