In the meantime...

A man finds a magic lamp that, of course, contains a wish-granting genie. The genie offers to grant only one wish, and the fortunate man quickly explains that his lifelong dream to visit Hawaii has been an impossibility because he has both aviophobia (fear of flying) and thalassaphobia (fear of open water); therefore, he cannot reach Hawaii by plane or boat. 

"My wish is this," he says to the genie. "A highway from California to Hawaii so that I might drive to my tropical destination!"

The genie, with a troubled look on his face, responds, "Do you have any idea what you're asking? Think of the structural difficulties...consider the complexity of the enginneering...the vast amount of material needed. I'm sorry, but you must wish for something else."

The man, disappointed, thinks for a moment and says, "Very well then. I wish that I could understand my teenage children."

The genie ponders this new request for a moment and replies, "Did you want two lanes or four?"
