RE: Conspiracy Theories
Personal income tax is constitutional in the US. It was first levied as a war measure during the civil war (3% of all income over $800pa) again in 1890 and finally permanently in 1913. The rates in 1913 ranged from 1 to 7%.

Quote:The Sixteenth Amendment (Amendment XVI) to the United States Constitution allows the Congress to levy an income tax without apportioning it among the states or basing it on Census results. This amendment overruled Pollock v. Farmers' Loan & Trust Co. (1895), which limited the Congress's authority to levy an income tax.

It was ratified on February 3, 1913.

RE: Conspiracy Theories
The sixteenth amendment and the creation of a private central bank are both unconstitutional, yes. The tax is listed as 'Voluntary' if you poke around enough. Some people stopped paying tax and were interviewed for the film In Debt We Trust. One of those women was a former employee of the IRS, and she is now being made example of. They did arrest and charge her, and now she is reportedly very ill in prison and not receiving medical care.

The overall point is that if you are able to make it to the supreme court, you will almost always be able to prove that personal income tax is against the constitution. Not everyone has that kind of money and time though.

I see it as protection money, it is a racket. Someone here, when I first got here said they were morally obliged to pay taxes, and I had to laugh. If anyone has a obligation it is the government who is receiving the money, not the little guy giving it up.

Let's make this good and personal, so you guys have plenty to yell about. I never filed or paid income tax in America. I realized pretty quickly that it was a scam, and I wasn't going to get hustled. I couldn't bring myself to pay some of my hard earned money for a little piece of a bomb to be dropped on other people. If anything I had a moral obligation NOT to pay my taxes. Then I got to Canada, and became a drug addict. I really didn't worry about taxes, as I thought I would die any day. Then people got mad and said "You have to pay Canadian tax, this isn't America" and I thought it out and realized it is still protection money. There still is no representation in Government for me here, and they are involved in the same illegal wars and terrible economic policies (bailout anyone?). So I have never in my life filed tax in any country I have lived in. Don't even worry about it.

Let me be clear though, that I pay taxes. The system in Canada (not in America) is that for the most part when you do your taxes, you get some money back. So never filing tax, and being dirt poor means I most likely am owed thousands and thousands of dollars by the Revenue Service. But I still don't care, and I still may be charged with Failure to Pay...

So that is my baited rant about the illegality of American taxes, and my experiences with them. Oh yeah, the IRS is looking for me casually, but Revenue Canada has never sent a letter...

RE: Conspiracy Theories
According to this university site, the "voluntary" clause refers to the method in which the IRS collects taxes.

http://docs.law.gwu.edu/facweb/jsiegel/P...untary.htm

Due to the size of the country, it is infeasible to go around and collect tax from each individual. Thus the system only works if people voluntarily comply with their mandatory duty to pay the tax.

What say you Pippy?

How can an amendment written into the Constitution be unconstitutional?

Come now Rhizomorph. This is a conspiracy theory...if it made any sense these idiots would find it far too logical to believe. It's like asking how layers of thermite, explosive charges, and detonation cable made their way into the World Trade Centers without a single worker in the buildings noticing anything odd.
