If the Exodus didn't happen, the Jews wouldn't put themselves under the Mosaic law

Well, it's not going to be their girlfriend's is it?

"I think I use the term “radical” rather loosely, just for emphasis. If you describe yourself as “atheist,” some people will say, “Don’t you mean ‘agnostic’?” I have to reply that I really do mean atheist, I really do not believe that there is a god; in fact, I am convinced that there is not a god (a subtle difference). I see not a shred of evidence to suggest that there is one ... etc., etc. It’s easier to say that I am a radical atheist, just to signal that I really mean it, have thought about it a great deal, and that it’s an opinion I hold seriously." - Douglas Adams (and I echo the sentiment)

Oh yeah - I went there!
At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist. This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair. Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second. That means there's a situation vacant.'

You know, Wyrd, one of the many interesting little tidbit which emerged from Israel Finkelstein's "The Bible Unearthed" was the difference between Israeli tradition and xtian tradition about that very issue. Xtians seem to think that Moses - no GPS for this guy - led his people around in a fucking circle for 40 years. The Israeli understanding was that they hung out at Kadesh Barnea for 38 years; Kadesh Barnea being the only oasis in the region which could sustain a number of people....although not 2 million!
As is customary, the xtian vision seems nonsensical.

Is there anything in the fairy tale that suggests that the Moses gang kicked back at an oasis for 38 years?

Well the Exodus did happen to the Jews, , so there is no other answer to why they are the way they are.

If Joseph Smith wasn't visited by the angel Moroni then Mormons wouldn't wear magic underpants.

That's right, folks! If you want to understand how observant Jews managed to misunderstand their own scriptures for centuries, "research" these isolated passages with an eye to confirming the church's desperate need to find 'prophesies' of Jesus Christ. And remember -- whatever you do, ignore the context!
