What counts as a legal practice in a public school is this:
1. The practice must have a secular purpose.
2. The practice must neither advance nor inhibit religion.
3. The practice must not result in excessive entanglement between government and religion.
When the principle lead this "prayer", what exactly did he say?

For some there might be.
You make people miserable and there's nothing they can do about it, just like god.

God has no place within these walls, just as facts have no place within organized religion.

Science is like a blabbermouth who ruins a movie by telling you how it ends. There are some things we don't want to know. Important things.

If you're feeling gutsy, take a mat into school with you. If he asks you to pray, put the mat down on the floor, kneel on it and do your best impression of a Muslim prayer you can.

Gutsy would we be wearing a colander on his head and professing that it is religious garb of those who like him who worship the flying spaghetti monster.

Or ask permission to offer up a blood sacrifice to Yahweh. Remember, he doesn't like the smell of veggies, he wants animal death. Perhaps you could offer up the janitor as a blood sacrifice..

You are correct sir:
Matthew 23 New International Version (NIV)
A Warning Against Hypocrisy
23 Then Jesus said to the crowds and to his disciples: 2 “The teachers of the law and the Pharisees sit in Moses’ seat. 3 So you must be careful to do everything they tell you. But do not do what they do, for they do not practice what they preach. 4 They tie up heavy, cumbersome loads and put them on other people’s shoulders, but they themselves are not willing to lift a finger to move them.
5 “Everything they do is done for people to see: They make their phylacteries[a] wide and the tassels on their garments long; 6 they love the place of honor at banquets and the most important seats in the synagogues; 7 they love to be greeted with respect in the marketplaces and to be called ‘Rabbi’ by others.
8 “But you are not to be called ‘Rabbi,’ for you have one Teacher, and you are all brothers. 9 And do not call anyone on earth ‘father,’ for you have one Father, and he is in heaven. 10 Nor are you to be called instructors, for you have one Instructor, the Messiah. 11 The greatest among you will be your servant. 12 For those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.
