Quote:More chlamydia cases than the flu last year in Utah County
Utah County health officials say sexually transmitted diseases continue to rise in the region for at least the fifth year in a row.
The Provo Daily Herald reports officials say each of the four major sexually transmitted diseases tracked by the health department increased last year from previous five-year averages.

This is a product of two things:
1) Abstinence only sex education promoted by Mormon church. With no knowledge people make uninformed decisions.
2) Religious guilt. People don't carry condoms because they feel guilt if they are "prepared" for sex.
Religion poisons everything.
teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"

Let's face it: Christianity is not like Scientology - it's much much worse!
California church leaders charged with forced labor of homeless, US attorney says
Quote:Imperial Valley Ministries leaders recruited people by promising food and shelter, and instead forced them to beg for money for nine hours a day, six days a week and to give up their welfare benefits "for the financial benefit of the church leaders," prosecutors said in a news release Tuesday that announced the indictment had been unsealed.

Because I'm certain those are the top 2 reasons, even though Mormon's have been in Utah since 1848 and preached abstinence only since 1916. Ignoring the fact they do have specific teaching on sexuality and have accepted non-abstinence methods since 1942. If there was a Mormon here, I'm sure they'd be using those same statistics to vilify the dirty and diseased heathens for spreading their sin to the population. How is that treating the religious with jumping to conclusions, judgment and stupidity as a quid pro quo working for your anti-theistic agenda?

The fact remains that Mormons ARE preaching abstinence only right now for unmarried people. To be fair, they do permit birth control between married couples.

Edit Reason: in fact teh study is actual explicit about the lack of correlatio
)
So I'm certain the statistics reflected married/unmarried and ages reported?
The church preaches no alcohol too, but I'm not certain with them having tons of breweries that that's as absolute as the anti-religious make it out to be.
Nor is contracteption https://askmormongirl.wordpress.com/2010...raception/ That was just a quick google search, I'm sure there's plenty since I have no LDS service first hand experience.
Botom line, The numbers for the post are aggregates of all and someone is using that to push there agenda on a supposed subset of those numbers, when it wasn't even a study specifically qualified as "LDS church member's self reported number of STD's increased exponentially this year". Utah STDs went up, so did overall population an probably instances of sex. There's no correlation to be made with the implied stance that ... ooogah boogah church bad... other than there's lots of Mormon's in Utah.
In fact the study is specific about it's lack of correlational evidence. Besides I'm not certain that even a small percentage of people that fall into their categories (such that "HIV and syphilis have increased in Utah County especially among the population of men who have sex with men") would be getting their education from a church, but it's ok continue to blame to church for ignorance, goodness knows there's enough to go around.

Mormons and sex:
Before marriage, it’s an absolute no-no, but after exchanging vows, it’s an emphatic yes-yes — and not just for making babies
Quote:By Courtney Tanner

From over the wooden pulpit at many Mormon congregations and conferences, church leaders have spoken often about sex — and almost exclusively about chastity.
Having sex before marriage, they warn, is “a serious sin.” Wearing modest clothing is the “foundation stone” of abstinence. Members should control their thoughts and avoid pornography to maintain their “moral cleanliness.” Those single and dating should not participate in “passionate kissing” or lying on top of another person, with or without clothes.
“Please, never say: ‘Who does it hurt? Why not a little freedom? I can transgress now and repent later.’ Please don’t be so foolish and so cruel,” apostle Jeffrey R. Holland said in an October 1998 talk on “personal purity.” “... You run the terrible risk of such spiritual, psychic damage that you may undermine both your longing for physical intimacy and your ability to give wholehearted devotion to a later, truer love.”
His point has been repeated by bishops and stake presidents and apostles in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for decades. Then-apostle Joseph B. Wirthlin noted in 1991 that “the Lord has never revoked the law of chastity,” and apostle David A. Bednar added in 2013 that not being celibate is “a misuse of our physical tabernacles.”

Leaked emails show Jerry Falwell Jr called LibertyU students, parents, and the police nasty names—just what we expect from a moral Christian leader.
