There's a job ad on a local Facebook page looking for people to work for a laundry service. You pick up laundry at the customer's home, wash, dry, fold and return it. Sounds okay right? The other part of the job requirement is to pray with/preach to/share the Word of God with the customers.
I suppose you get clean underwear and your soul cleansed at the same time.

Interesting. Just where is this job? Sounds nasty enough without the god grovelling.
Such would be illegal her in Oz. Of course, some churches and religious institutions still manage the get around the law. This seems to be managed by the time honoured practice of believers everywhere; bare faced lying whenever deemed necessary.

Dallas? Have never been. I understand Texans like it.
The Churches here still try all kinds of nasty shit such as not hiring gays or atheists. Of course those are not the reasons they give, at least not more than once..

A friend and I applied for a job at a church of Scientology once. The questions were so bizarre on the application, we folded the applications up and pocketed them to show our friends. At that point we were like "we don't wanna work in this fuckin' joint, and we made our way out.
We were stopped at the door and asked to surrender the applications. I had a pocket full of drugs, so I wasn't interested in making a scene. So I complied, as did my friend.

Fascinating. I had a similar experience with a company selling encyclopedias. The add said there was a training payment. There wasn't. They gave us this 2 page script to memorise. It was deeply dishonest. (now a lot of that stuff is illegal) Went back the next day to tell them I was not continuing. They asked for the script told them I'd lost it. They were not happy. Too bad.
Scientology is beyond the pale. I've never understood how they conned any government into recognising them as a religion with tax exemption. On reflection, no ta long way down the street from Mormons. Seems to me that a great many Mormons have simply put all their eggs into one basket. Problem is, it's the wrong fucking basket. I can understand gullible, under educated 19th century people falling for the shit. But I find it hard to believe a reasonable person in the 21st century would fall for it.
The good news is the Mormon church seems to be haemorrhaging members. According to the church itself, 2020 was only the second time their membership grew by less than 10,000. Would love to know their real membership figures. During that time they had over 33,000 resignation requests. The church is currently gaining new members below the natural birth rate.

Slightly off topic: Did anyone watch "Big Love"? I watched a couple of episodes. I have never understood the attraction of polygamy , especially for women if living in the same house.
In Islam, a man may have up to four wives. However, each must have her own house and all must be treated the same. As I understand it, plural marriage is no longer all that common in Islam.
Mormons had (have?) plural marriages because Joseph Smith was a criminal and dirty old man who liked very young girls. He had around 40 wives. Two were 14 and several others under 18. Several were elderly (?) Joseph Smith was 39 when killed by a lynch mob.
Taken as a whole, Joseph Smith was a liar and con man, he belonged in prison for his cons well before he invented Mormonism..

I think it took a while for governments and the general public to see the true nature of the Scientologists' organization. After all, "a bunch of kooky beliefs" is common among nearly all religions.
As for the Mormons, they have a cultural foothold. Stronger in Utah than elsewhere. If their numbers are dwindling, they'll likely stabilize around that "cultural core" in Utah and nearby. They might have overextended themselves with their evangelical projects.

The story of how the church got the IRS to give them tax free status is a whole chapter unto itself. The story in some quarters is that the church of Scientology pressured individual IRS officials through following, intimidation, and lawsuits until they finally gave in.

GOP candidate explains how she killed her neighbors using Jesus powers because they were witches
teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"
