RE: Damned Christians
Are Christian nationalists antisemitic? Short answer: Yes

teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"

Protests outside abortion clinics and family planning centers are underway in Germany.

Reproductive rights advocates point to the influence of US money and tactics on the anti-abortion movement in Germany and Europe.

"The demonstration was held by 40 Days for Life, a movement that originated in the US state of Texas in 2004. It calls on protesters to hold so-called "vigils" outside of abortion facilities for 40 days beginning on Ash Wednesday to coincide with Lent."

The New Children’s Crusade: Recruiting For America’s Culture War

“You have all these groups that are weaponizing young people in ways that we really haven’t seen before,” conservative political consultant Micah Bock told a group of teenagers and younger children to thunderous applause at last fall’s Texas Youth Summit. As he spoke, young girls at the front of the crowd took notes with their pom-pom pens bobbing.

It’s all part of a nationwide effort by multiple well-funded groups, many of which originated or are based in Texas, to mobilize young people, mainly Christian youth, to engage in right-wing politics. These groups and their leaders are part of a roll-call of Christian nationalist power players who defend the January 6 riots, promote hate speech, and aim to build their economic and political power by instilling Christian and constitutional “originalism” in the public sphere. To achieve their goals, they are increasingly defending the use of violence, particularly anti-LGBTQ+ violence, which has shot up in frequency since the start of 2022.

What’s more, the leaders of the movement are set on convincing young people, starting even before high school, that they are the underdogs in this fight—the under-funded rebels fighting a rich, powerful leftist establishment–and that what they’re engaged in is a holy war for America’s soul.

YCT now has 24 chapters across Texas, many of them formed in the past year, according to former Sam Houston State University chapter chair Johnny Uribe. His YCT chapter and others, Uribe said, receive funding from national right-wing youth groups like Turning Point USA (TPUSA) and the Leadership Institute to train young right-wing activists on how to take up the gauntlet for conservative causes.

What do you know, Christianity is growing.

'Burgers for baptism': 13-year-old baptised without parents' consent

Parents of a 13-year-old boy are angry a church baptised him without their knowledge at an event they say lured him to a park paddling pool font with burgers and lollies.

Bay of Plenty mother Jesse Brown and her partner Luke were “shocked and upset” when their son came home from the park holding a bible and told them he’d just been baptised at a ‘gospel crusade’ event.

“I asked my son if he knew what baptism was, and he didn’t have a clue. His mates also did it. They’d had these huge burgers that they loved... they were just getting amongst it like kids do. There was no mention in the advertising for the event that there was baptism involved. It was like it was targetted at kids with the food and activities.”

A family friend spotted a video of their son’s baptism on the church’s social media pages.

Decades on From Peace, Northern Ireland Schools Are Still Deeply Divided

The nation’s school system still sees the country’s pupils starkly divided by their religious backgrounds, years after the Good Friday Agreement brought an end to sectarian strife.

In the 25 years since the Good Friday Agreement ended the bloody, sectarian conflict in Northern Ireland, the country has seen many changes — but not in its education system.

School attendance remains starkly divided along traditional religious lines. Even though the school system is state-funded and has one curriculum, Protestant church leaders dominate certain school boards while other schools are managed by the Catholic church. Students from either background are free to attend either type of school, but almost always choose the one matching their family’s religious tradition.

Lisa Lynn, 42, Mark’s mother, said she did not oppose integrated education. But she wants her son to attend Catholic school. “It’s not so much the religious side of it — I grew up a certain way,” she said, “and I want my kids to follow those footsteps.”

Despite a growing push for integrated education, less than 8 percent of Northern Ireland’s schools are formally integrated, where the religious background of the student body broadly reflects Northern Ireland’s demographics. While many schools have some children from both backgrounds enrolled, nearly one-third of schools have no religious mix at all.

The upshot: Many students do not meet pupils of different backgrounds until university.

That is a problem, said Darren McKinstry, the director of public policy at the Equality Commission for Northern Ireland, because shared learning plays an important role in re-establishing bonds after a conflict.

“This long experience of separate education has been a lost opportunity for everyone,” Mr. McKinstry said.

Catholic nationalists wanted self-determination, and the result was the conflict known as the Troubles. Decades on, the two labels of Catholic and Protestant are clumsy shorthand for a deep-seated divide of cultural and political perspectives, even as the region grows increasingly secular and more diverse.

At Christianity’s Holiest Site, Rival Monks Struggle to Turn Other Cheek

“When I first arrived in Jerusalem I was shocked,” said Markos Alorshalemy, an Egyptian monk. “I was expecting to see a holy land, where everyone is living in peace and light. But instead, I found a place where everyone is constantly fighting, even inside the holiest church.”

On the eve of Palm Sunday in 1757, Greek Orthodox adherents attacked Franciscan Catholics inside the church “with clubs, maces, hooks, poniards and swords,” the historian Simon Sebag Montefiore, citing a contemporary account, wrote in his book, “Jerusalem: The Biography.”

As recently as 2008, a violent brawl broke out between Greek and Armenian Orthodox clergy over the route of a procession, leading to arrests.

On the eve of Palm Sunday in 2022, late at night as his rivals slept, an Egyptian Coptic monk surreptitiously painted a large Egyptian flag at the door to a courtyard he believed was being illegally occupied by Ethiopian monks.

“We called the police once, twice, three times, but they did nothing,” the Egyptian monk, Theophilus Alorshalemy, said in an interview, explaining his act of protest. “So we decided to deal with them ourselves.”

Rival sects of Christians have been jostling for control of their faith’s holy sites in Jerusalem for nearly two millenniums, and the sprawling Church of the Holy Sepulcher is at the heart of these contests.

the conflict between the Ethiopians and Egyptians about the small monastery on top of the church remains active and heated — and can be set off by something as small as the placement of a chair.

In 2002, several monks were hospitalized in a fistfight that followed an Egyptian monk moving his chair to the shade of a nearby tree, according to news reports at the time. In 2018, tensions rose again over the renovation of a ceiling, leading the police to arrest an Egyptian monk.

Kenya cult deaths: 21 bodies found

Kenyan police have exhumed 21 bodies near the coastal town of Malindi, as they investigate a preacher said to have told followers to starve to death in order to "meet Jesus".

Dead children were among those exhumed, and police said they expected to find even more bodies.

The preacher allegedly named three villages Nazareth, Bethlehem and Judea and baptised followers in ponds before telling them to fast, The Standard reports.
