I never understood the point to Calvinism. If god has already preordained who's to be saved, then why bother?

More to the point, if he preordained those to be saved why bother letting my mum give birth to me?

When I lurked on other boards, it seemed as if the majority of the Christians who wanted to debate atheists were some sort of Calvinist.

If you are religious, what church or religious group do you belong?

If you don't attend church, which church do you most agree with its theological stance?

My guess is that Godschild and Drich(Dirch?) are Calvinists but I might be wrong.

I have no idea what the Professor is. Chadwooter has told us what type he is but I can't remember. Is Heywood a Christian?

So which one is with the People's Front of Judea?

"I think I use the term “radical” rather loosely, just for emphasis. If you describe yourself as “atheist,” some people will say, “Don’t you mean ‘agnostic’?” I have to reply that I really do mean atheist, I really do not believe that there is a god; in fact, I am convinced that there is not a god (a subtle difference). I see not a shred of evidence to suggest that there is one ... etc., etc. It’s easier to say that I am a radical atheist, just to signal that I really mean it, have thought about it a great deal, and that it’s an opinion I hold seriously." - Douglas Adams (and I echo the sentiment)

All of you are predestined.
You get to choose to walk in it or not.

So we're actually not predestined at all.

I've noticed Christians on forums never want to share anything concrete about their religious beliefs past or present. It makes me wonder if their practice of Christianity is mostly limited to role playing on the internet. Maybe preaching on forums is their primary means of feeling Christian? I don't understand why Christians never want to say specifically what they believe. They always say they aren't religious and so forth. Probably they keep their specific beliefs nebulous so nobody can criticize them.

I chose to "walk in it" for a while, then I looked down and realize what I was stepping in and made a different choice.
"Well, evolution is a theory. It is also a fact. And facts and theories are different things, not rungs in a hierarchy of increasing certainty. Facts are the world's data. Theories are structures of ideas that explain and interpret facts. Facts don't go away when scientists debate rival theories to explain them. Einstein's theory of gravitation replaced Newton's in this century, but apples didn't suspend themselves in midair, pending the outcome. And humans evolved from ape- like ancestors whether they did so by Darwin's proposed mechanism or by some other yet to be discovered."

You mean it's more like a personalized recommendation?

That concept is Paulinian in nature, John Calvin simply pointed back to it.

So why bother?

Because 'we' don't know who has been called and who has not. Look at the example of Paul/Saul of Tarsus. He started out life Hating Christians, and ended up being one of the Founding Fathers of the Church.

This mean just because one maybe at odds with God now, does not mean God has not called them home.. That said not all are called come.

So again why bother? Because 'we'/none of us Christian or not know who has or has not been called home.

How do you know you haven't been pre-ordained to be saved?
