I don't hate theists. I strive to love all. It's just a part of who I am. But I do have preferences who I want to socialize with. If we don't discuss religion at all I would hang with anyone. I just don't like it when theists try to make me like them which I don't want to be.

RE: I was having lunch with an Atheist today...
A very good friend of mine who is a (very) devout Christian once introduced me to his girlfriend. "This is the heathen I was telling you about," he told her. Her face absolutely blanched when he said that. "You call him that to his face!?" she asked in a not-so-subtle aside.

My friend and I tease each other incessantly (he's actually the one who started calling me 'Heathen'), but it's always good-natured. I respect him even though his beliefs seem ludicrous to me. He respects me even though he thinks he will be toasting marshmallows off my burning body for eternity. If only this were the worst byproduct of religious disagreement!

I had lunch with a theist friend once. Everything was going well until I ordered the side of baby. I still don't know why he decided that a restaurant was an appropriate place to stage an exorcism.

To the OP, I'm glad your lunch went better.

There is a Christian I know that keeps trying to convert me. At first, we talked about different things. But eventually it became about him trying to convert me. I got tired of hanging out with him, because, the conversation was always him trying to convert me.

I hang out with Muslims, Atheists, Christians, Deists...and it's all good. I don't mind talking about religion but not when the person is constantly trying to convert you.

Have you ever considered convertifying back at him and seeing how long he lasts? If he gets annoyed, he's a hypocrite Smile

That is shameless of them. I don't blame you for getting tired of that. I would have done the same. It smacks of insecurity when you are desperate for the other person to have to agree with you and relentlessly persue them.

Well I do tell him reasons I think Christianity is illogical (why I think it's wrong aside from lack of proof) but he enjoys the conversation about religion. He is obsessed with religion. He uses a lot of circular reasoning...the problem is a lot of stuff comes down to what I believe about morals, and about people being good but he always attacks my viewpoint as self-righteousness, as man made definition of good and morals, etc, so there is no winning with him.

Sounds like that saying - don't try wrestling a pig, you both get dirty, but after a while you'll realize the pig enjoys it.

Although I stay as calm as possible, he always gets angry. His tone is very aggressive. I remember one time I told him I think Atheists can be good people too and can deserve paradise and believe most of them are good people, he got very upset and with anger said that he believes Atheists can be compassionate, charitable, etc, but not good, and that works without faith is dead. He tends to emphasize on that works without faith is dead.
