Catholics just do what Catholics do and are never asked what they believe to qualify. I.e. that is what infant baptism is all about.

And of course you can deny theism if your idea of theism includes the existence of a God or gods or anything to do with what we would call God, such as the trinity, that in Catholicism is freely expressed as metaphor to encounter later in life on our own, or not, to say that nobody will ever ask and/or tell you what to do.

And it is not my job as Catholic to convince you of anything. My reason for suggesting that atheism can be just a fear of religion is because in some religions great demands are made of its members, such as tithing, religious obligations and behavior modifications to fit the mold.

Fascinating.

So you're saying your whole church would be surprised at any link with Jesus? Who would you most identify with? Mary? The father? The spirit? The priest?

Not at all. Jesus was the spokesperson in the Gospels and that is all he was. I then added that the Gospels show us how transformation is done, or at least how it is supposed to be done because they make known the difference between what we call heaven and hell here on earth with Matthew and Mark being just opposite to Luke and John to make this difference known to us.

So important now is doing it right and therefore it is never a good idea to read the gospels with curious eyes because that can send the believer hell in a hurry, I suppose. This would be why Catholics just left Jesus hanging there as part of the act but not to say that he died for us then.

Mary is not part of the Trinity but comes to the fore after the collapse of the trinity itself. This would be when the father and son become one and the spirit is obviously redundant from then on.

Atheism has nothing to do with any fear of religion or religious practices. Atheists on the other hand can be motivated by any manner of factors. I don't get why you're making this so difficult.
At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist.  This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair.  Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second.  That means there's a situation vacant.'

Atheism is the acknowledgement of saying i don't know there is any god and there is lack of a god to prove he exists.
on a scale of 1 to 7 i am a 7 i am a strong atheist there is no evidence of god and a god doesn't exist.

I don't think people are atheist because they fear anything. More then likely it's because people with religious views are so obnoxious it's a turn off. Plus there are people that just don't buy the God thing.
None are more hopelessly enslaved than those who falsely believe they are free.

The label is irrelevent, I'll grant that much. What the ascriptions to that label mean however is not. I've lacked any sort of belief or indeed concept of a 'God' since day 1 of my existence. I've always been an atheist; I've never once been a theist. Every single God concept that's been proposed to me has been found wanting and has not passed my minimum standard of evidence which I require to make me believe there might be something to it.

Do you understand this?

Ok sure, I have never been a theist either and never knew that word until I came to Canada. I was never asked to believe anything about God so how can I be either theist or atheist?

We were told stories, I suppose, but were never asked to believe any of that.

You believe in [a version of] a god, correct?

You're a theist.

What you were told or what you were told to believe is irreverent. It's got nothing to do with what you've been told, but what you [don't] believe.

It's really that simple and I'm not sure why you're making it more complex than it needs to be?

You're a theist.

And if you don't then you're an atheist. It's a binary proposition; there really is no middle ground.

Lambert you are a atheist to every other god except your own.
You are a theist to your own god.

Former Catholic myself. Glad I left, but not for any emotional reasons. It simply made less and less sense over time.

I know how that is... First off when i was a theist i asked my parents and preacher is magic real they were like no it doesn't then i asked how god made everything they said god can speak things into existence and i said like magic...that was one of my first indications something isn't right.

You know Christians. They like to do things in threes.
