Why? I don't understand how anyone could have a gun so accessible, with no safety precautions in place. I have no words, or perhaps, too many.

Why does everyone assume it was an accident ? The child may have rightly perceived his mother to be an imminent danger and took appropriate action.

People have a right to privacy and because that right exists some bad things will come of it. Some will use their privacy to conceal child molestation or the cooking of meth or some other dastardly deed. People have the right to carry weapons and because that right exists some bad things will come of it.....like this tragic accident.
