Why do never-theists come to atheist forums?
|
I really don't get it - What do you want to know? Different people have different reasons, I came just for curiosity and because I have few atheists in real life. AF in particular is also useful for discussing many other topics other than atheism and religion, so that's a huge bonus, and people around here are nice, charming and condescending.
Whoever fights monsters should see to it that in the process he does not become a monster. And if you gaze long enough into an abyss, the abyss will gaze back into you
It's also a good way to keep up with atheist/religious based news, thanks to the tireless efforts of Min and others
Shame today's news was so shocking It's made me sick to my core. Feel free to send me a private message.

Thanks, those seem like good reasons. I think I ask, because I find myself thinking about religion a lot lately. Sometimes I think how nice it would be to have never been exposed to religion and never think about it at all. So I wonder why such people would want to discuss it. People have brought up some good reasons that I never thought about: - mobilizing and encouraging atheists to challenge stupid theistic political meddling - expressing the frustrations of a minority atheist in a majority theist community - reexamining your atheist position - atheists tend to be more open to new ideas - having fun - ... I wish I could forget about religion, but until it stops being a problem, I feel I should try and play my part. The more visible atheists there are, even online, the easier it is for the next one to jump ship.
And I might as well rip the piss out of it for fun while it's being such a blight. If religion had any truth, it wouldn't be so god damn easy. Seeing people try and defend it is like watching someone trying to convince me that 1 = 3. Oh wait... Feel free to send me a private message.

Well atheism wouldn't exist without religion.

If there is a god, I want to believe that there is a god. If there is not a god, I want to believe that there is no god.
