You all have convinced me with your endless arguements that despite what 'rule' a given affiliation may have they mean little to nothing compared to what a person 'feels' or claims for himself.
So... I feel like I have spent enough time around atheists to identify myself as one by proxcimity (Not by core belief) But as you all say core belief is just a formality. Who are any of you to say I am not an atheist if i say that I am?
So from now on I wish to be identified as a God loving Atheist!
...That is unless you all can conceed that there are indeed rules to being affiliated with a given group, other than a verbal proclaimation stating that one is indeed apart of said group.
Atheism is, broadly, a rejection of belief in deities. This is not a 'rule', its a definition. Atheists do not have a 'group', its an individual statement on the position of belief in deities.
Atheism is not a religion or a religious movement, it has no symbol, it has no leader because it does not exist in that way.
The fact that some of us are actually nice people (myself not included) and get on well together is arbitrary to our individual atheistic assertions.
You can stick your 'social' box up your social 'box'.

"I think I use the term “radical” rather loosely, just for emphasis. If you describe yourself as “atheist,” some people will say, “Don’t you mean ‘agnostic’?” I have to reply that I really do mean atheist, I really do not believe that there is a god; in fact, I am convinced that there is not a god (a subtle difference). I see not a shred of evidence to suggest that there is one ... etc., etc. It’s easier to say that I am a radical atheist, just to signal that I really mean it, have thought about it a great deal, and that it’s an opinion I hold seriously." - Douglas Adams (and I echo the sentiment)

It's an abbreviated list, Fr0d0 and Drich.
In my town alone there are dozens of non denominational Christian churches such as the Laud Emmanuel Ministry down the street from me. Each has it's own interpretation of what it means to be a proper Christian.
I have a rather simple two part definition of Christian myself. Since Christianity is defined as a monotheistic (we won't get into the trinity thing here) religion, a Christian is someone who believes God is the god of Abraham. Since multiple major religions believe in the god of Abraham a second qualifier is required. That qualifier is belief in salvation through Christ.

I don't mean to sound rude to Drich but I don't think I got the point of this thread.
Ps- there are only 3 denominations. Protestant, catholic, Orthodox.
The rest come under protestant. They were made up because people thought it'd be cool to start their own sect than work out their disagreements.
Which is kind of what protestantism is all about anyway

Ahh, but you don't understand. Drich actually knows what a "True Christian" is and what the rules are for the real Christians. Everyone that doesn't follow his rules simply isn't a Christian. So..sorry dude, looks like you're out too.

What was the point of my Thread as you see it?
-PS:
DENOMINATION:
1: an act of denominating
2: a value or size of a series of values or sizes (as of money)
3: name, designation; especially: a general name for a category
4: a religious organization whose congregations are united in their adherence to its beliefs and practices.
According to Merrium Webster a denomination is simply a fellowship of like minded believers. as some believe there are 30 to 40K different versions of Christianity, it is not incorrect to say that each is indeed it's own denomination.

You missed one. The Assyrian Church has been independent of the Catholics since the Council of Ephesus in 431. The Oriental Orthodox did not separate until the Council of Chalcedon twenty years later in 451, and the Eastern Orthodox not until the 11th century.
There was a split in the Assyrian Church in the late 17th century with some of the members moving to Eastern Catholicism, but the original Assyrian Church is still around today.

I can only guess what the point of this thread is. I think it's meant to be satirical or something. Of what, I don't know.
