As a youngster I started working as a lifeguard during the summers. From there I developed a strong interest in lifeguarding and teaching first aid, which then led to becoming a certified instructor and examiner with the Canadian Red Cross and the Canadian Lifesaving Society.

After graduating from York University, with a B.A. in Kinesiology, I took a position with the Canadian Red Cross in Toronto as their Safety Services manager. After a few years I started a first aid and CPR training company, offering courses throughout the greater Toronto area.

Because I wanted to share all that I've learned, I decided to write a first aid manual. Be sure to check it out!

That woman has science to thank for her life. If she was alone in her bedroom with nothing but the delusional prayers of her family members, there wouldn't be a single definition of death that she wouldn't have qualified for.

My wife is a nurse in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. I hear stories all the time about how ignorantly obtuse Christians praise Jesus after a team of humans bring their 4 oz fetus of a baby back to life using state of the art human technology. If God were real, those babies, that woman, and all other modern people would die the same terrible deaths that God apparently intended for every other generation. Really...pull your head out of your ass.
Except that the doctors clearly acknowledged that all attempt to Resuscitate failed.

Again that coming back from the dead bullshit?

Sigh.

One thing's for sure. God certainly is picky when it comes to whom to resucitate. And I make a wild guess here in saying that a first aid specialist is probably more qualified than your not so humble self to talk about medicine.

Oh really? Ok then, here are some quotes from the article on clinical death you linked.

Quote:Prior to the invention of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), defibrillation, epinephrine injection, and other treatments in the 20th century, the absence of blood circulation (and vital functions related to blood circulation) was historically considered the official definition of death. With the advent of these strategies, cardiac arrest came to be called clinical death rather than simply death, to reflect the possibility of post-arrest resuscitation. For medical purposes, it is considered the final physical state before legal death.

Quote:Death was historically believed to be an event that coincided with the onset of clinical death. It is now understood that death is a series of physical events, not a single one, and determination of permanent death is dependent on other factors beyond simple cessation of breathing and heartbeat.

Quote:Under laboratory conditions at normal body temperature, the longest period of clinical death of a cat (after complete circulatory arrest) survived with eventual return of brain function is one hour.

Seriously.

And what about the link TRS posted?

This one?

Quote:What is death?

Despite its frequent use, the term "clinical death" doesn't actually have a consistent meaning, said Dr. James Bernat, a neurologist at Dartmouth College's Geisel School of Medicine in New Hampshire. In most hospitals, the doctor in charge of a patient's care makes the death determination, and there aren't universal guidelines for when to make that call, he said.

"You're dead when a doctor says you're dead," Bernat told Live Science.

So you're going to ignore parts of the article you quoted and instead claim that the woman was dead because and I quote "the doctors were on the verge of declaring her dead"?

again, your definition of death allows for the possibility of life. If I acknowledge your definition, there can be nothing interesting about your story.

Quote: If the Moon got much closer, say 20 times closer, it would exert a gravitational force 400 times greater than what we are used to. A mighty tidal bulge would be created, hitting the land and causing great flooding, with cities such as London and New York disappearing under water.

No one's going to bat an eye at this one, huh?

I'll bite. All it would take for a worldwide flood is for the moon to randomly shift orbits to 5% of it's current orbit. Nice.

Couple problems. Why didn't Noah mention that the moon suddenly overwhelmed the night sky? How about the massive seismological activity that would happen when the Earth and the Moon warped each other's shape? Why isn't that mentioned in the Bible? The moon would still have a warped shape. What is the mechanism for by which the moon suddenly shifted orbits, then shifted back? Also, this still wouldn't change the amount of water on the planet. It would create a rolling tidal wave, one that would easily fuck an 800' wooden boat to shit. And one, incidentally, that would leave a LOT more evidence and destruction that a simple flood would. There are too many problems to count.

Not to mention that you haven't come any closer to proving that this actually happened. In fact, you have made it easier to prove that it didn't happen.
"There remain four irreducible objections to religious faith: that it wholly misrepresents the origins of man and the cosmos, that because of this original error it manages to combine the maximum servility with the maximum of solipsism, that it is both the result and the cause of dangerous sexual repression, and that it is ultimately grounded on wish-thinking." ~Christopher Hitchens, god is not Great

Do you have a problem with someone requesting sources?

This IS a claim, and I am trying to find out exactly where in these particular books Jesus is portrayed as being married.

This thread is getting long so I don't know if anyone else said this. Just as there are no bible verses saying Jesus had not previously been married there are no bible verses saying he was always single either. That is my point. Many Christians believe both Jesus and Paul remained single because of tradition and not because of anything in the bible.
