The Reasons why "Just Following Jesus" Doesn't work

Following Jesus doesn't work because the gardener does not need to be supervised as though he does not know what he is doing.

A Christian told me: if you were saved you cant lose your salvation. you're sealed with the Holy Ghost
I replied: Can I refuse? Because I find the entire concept of vicarious blood sacrifice atonement to be morally abhorrent, the concept of holding flawed creatures permanently accountable for social misbehaviors and thought crimes to be morally abhorrent, and the concept of calling something "free" when it comes with the strings of subjugation and obedience perhaps the most morally abhorrent of all... and that's without even going into the history of justifying genocide, slavery, rape, misogyny, religious intolerance, and suppression of free speech which has been attributed by your own scriptures to your deity. I want a refund. I would burn happily rather than serve the monster you profess to love. RE: The Reasons why "Just Following Jesus" Doesn't work

Quote: (Deuteronomy 22:28-29 NLT) Yeah.. You're right! Best join the holy soldiers club, then. That way (if you don't die ) you get to take on a sex slave as a wife and if she displeases you then (or you find someone better), she can just leave! You'd be A. Getting to rent her body, and B. Giving her her freedom after having killed her entire family and taken her virtue! Win win, right? The only downside I guess is the month long "mourning" waiting period. Quote:(Deuteronomy 21:10-14 NAB) Oh and guess what happens if your wife gets raped in the city? Quote: (Deuteronomy 22:23-24 NAB) And if you have any doubt as to whether god approves or not, then surely the words of his beloved son Moses are clear enough, yes? Kill all the women who have slept with a man, keep the virgins and children and 'enjoy the spoils god has granted you'. Quote: (Numbers 31:7-18 NLT) Thank god all of this stuff didn't really happen, right? Like the Jews building the pyramids? Quote:Graves of the pyramid builders were first discovered in the area in 1990 when a tourist on horseback stumbled over a wall that later proved to be a tomb.
If I were to create self aware beings knowing fully what they would do in their lifetimes, I sure wouldn't create a HELL for the majority of them to live in infinitely! That's not Love, that's sadistic. Therefore a truly loving god does not exist!
Quote:The sin is against an infinite being (God) unforgiven infinitely, therefore the punishment is infinite. Dead wrong. The actions of a finite being measured against an infinite one are infinitesimal and therefore merit infinitesimal punishment. Quote:Some people deserve hell. I say again: No exceptions. Punishment should be equal to the crime, not in excess of it. As soon as the punishment is greater than the crime, the punisher is in the wrong.
Has someone mentioned the problem of his non-existence?

If you look back then you will see I wrote that I believed you. My mother's stepfather was a preacher. He was an angry man. (not saying that your father is) She felt like Christianity was bondage too. After she got out of her mother's house she didn't regularly attend church until I was in junior High. She now has a real relationship with God and does not feel bound like she did when she was under that man's rule. My pastor also was a preacher's kid. In college he would talk people out of their faith in Christ. Then He met Jesus while he was in college and has lead our church for more than 20 years. It is not religion that keeps me in this faith it is a relationship with God. Through Jesus sacrifice on the cross for my sins and the grace of the Holy Spirit that keeps me in this relationship. The majority of folks in those 40,000 schisms will say they are doing precisely that.
Your answer didn't help at all. You're implying Mormons, for example, are Saved. Clearly, that's not the case, since Joseph Smith made up the whole mess of it. The granting of a pardon is an imputation of guilt, and the acceptance a confession of it.

Is that how you picture all atheist women or do you just know yourself so well that you know where things would go if you just "let go". Well, hate to break it to you, but even if you de-Saviorized, you'd still have the inconvenience of living life, to perform. Only speaking of myself because I know how God has changed me. When I said let loose I didn't mean sleep around. Christianity isn't just about self it is about God and glorifying Him. God has worked on my fears and anxieties and discipline but most of all on my love for others. This isn't about performance to do the right things but to be with God and to know Him. When He redeemed me from my sins it wasn't just to save me from hell but to also redeem all of me. My way of thinking, my feelings, my habits, my relationships, ect. |
