Question for Atheists
RE: Question for Atheists
Yeah sure, that's not cool. I wasn't contesting the decision, only surprised that he'd blown his top so quickly. I told him about the 30/30 in the thread too right after he did it, so he was ignoring multiple messages.

RE: Question for Atheists
He was ignoring almost everyone left and right. Quite what that says about his honesty to research I won't speculate.
At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist.  This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair.  Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second.  That means there's a situation vacant.'

I wouldn't count correcting factually wrong statements such as "nouns are capitalised" as nitpicking. I thought he had admitted his mistake (although not explicitly of course) but then went back at it later. We would be saving him an awful lot of embarressment as an author.

Weird guy.

RE: Question for Atheists
Couple of years ago, I was part of a Facebook exchange with a group of people. Someone used the delightful phrase "patty de fwar grar", for reasons which now escape me. After I posted the correct spelling, the person took the time to message and thank me. He said he'd never seen the phrase written down before, so I was a big help to him.

I'd have respected this guy more if, after we pointed out why atheism isn't a proper noun, he'd said "oh really? I didn't know that. Thanks for clarifying - that's actually helpful."

But no, he chose the pompous dickhead route and threw his rattle out of the pram. It was when he did the same regarding the rules that was his undoing.

I don't ever see his book as getting on the New York Times best seller list. At least not with his attitude. Either way, it's not one I'll ever read.

I agree, it does seem picky to some but to others it can be particularly grating especially if they get pissed off with you pointing it out and then just ignoring you.

A few weeks back, I very politely advised Godschild that he repeatedly uses the word "want" where he actually means "won't" which makes the sentence read the complete opposite to its intended meaning. I genuinely wanted him to realise this error and correct it but would he accept it, would he fuck. I got a response that was more in line with something you would expect when you question his belief instead of accepting an indisputable factual error. He continues to wrongly substitute these words even now.

It suggests to me that the defence of delusion spreads so far into the corners of their mind that nothing, but nothing will ever penetrate it.

I know if someone were to point out an error to me that I can confirm (which often happens at work) I make a big effort to ensure it never happens again. Just the way the brain is wired up I suppose.

Quite so. And honestly I don't get what's to research about atheism. If I were to write about a christian I would foremost create a character with a life story, with experiences that shaped and made them. I would never assume that christians are a faceless mass just following marching orders.

But quite often I get the impression that certain religious people view themselves in that way. They believe that certain values, for lack of a better word, are written in stone and all of them have to subscribe to to the same. And so they project that on atheism.

In fact, when reading his first post about christians loving their country, I was already a little bit put off. Without him knowing or noticing, he already gave us a glimpse of his narrow understanding of humanity. It was clear that he built his views on a rather small sample of American christians and went out to project and generalize.

If you're planning to write a book, learn some goddamn grammar first.
"Well, evolution is a theory. It is also a fact. And facts and theories are different things, not rungs in a hierarchy of increasing certainty. Facts are the world's data. Theories are structures of ideas that explain and interpret facts. Facts don't go away when scientists debate rival theories to explain them. Einstein's theory of gravitation replaced Newton's in this century, but apples didn't suspend themselves in midair, pending the outcome. And humans evolved from ape- like ancestors whether they did so by Darwin's proposed mechanism or by some other yet to be discovered."

Sure, go speak to any hardcore Republican. Anyone you want. Go ahead. Ask them how important country is to them lol

That's one of your problems right there -- you think "hardcore Republican" is synonymous with "Christian, when, in fact, hardcore Republicans may wrap themselves in a cloak of Christianity and claim to follow Jesus but practice the polar opposite of what he supposedly taught.

Oh, wait, on second thought
... you're right that is precisely what a lot (maybe most) Christians do.
