That's the most likely explanation, yeah. Science doesn't deal in absolute certainty. Proposing other explanations normally requires at least one unfounded assumption.
So a soul is a ghostly version of me that summarizes my personality and mindset. And it resides in my body, waiting for me to die?
That sounds kind of gross...are souls contagious?
I don't know, but after a big explosion it takes some poor contagious to clear up all those dead souls.
I can only imagine after a large amount of death, some old man with a vaccuum goes around to collect all the souls.
