The current statutory rape scheme is disgusting. The laws need to be changed - yesterday - but what politician wants to put his name on what groups will call the "sex with children" bill? Obviously, it wouldn't be the "sex with children" bill, it would be the "if you have sex with a girl you meet in a bar, and you only find out when her parents get the cops to show up at your front door that she was there with a fake ID and she looked 21 and said she was 21, you shouldn't go to jail" bill. But good luck getting the screeching (in this case, from the extreme edges of both sides of the political spectrum, I might think) to cease long enough for you to take your hands off your ears and sign the damn thing into law...

What's worse about this case is apparently the prosecutor made a plea deal with the guy which included the stipulation that he would not be registered as a sex offender. The guy took the deal. Then, the prosecutor violated the plea deal by asking the judge to rule that the guy be registered as a sex offender anyway. I believe the family are trying to withdraw the plea.
Hopefully they'll manage to get the case review by a different judge as well, because the judge said when sentencing:
"You went online, to use a fisherman's expression, trolling for women to meet and have sex with. That seems to be part of our culture now: meet, hook up, have sex, sayonara. Totally inappropriate behavior. There is no excuse for this whatsoever."
In other words, the judge sentenced him based on his own personal moral view, rather than what the law is (since it's not illegal to go online to meet women and have sex).

Which brings us to a general problem of the American system. If you got funds, you can buy some of the best stuff in the world, including justice. If you don't have them, you're left to with the butt card.

And to make matters more fucking obvious, she lied about her age, and he KNEW she lied about her age. Then what does he do? He supposedly believes her when she tells him her age. If that story is true, he has shit for brains. Unless that story is not true, he is a total fucking moron.
