9 Dead in SC church shooting

Gonna be honest, and this might shed a bit of light on the current state of the media, but as soon as I saw the headline I was thinking "Don't be a muslim, don't be a muslim, don't be a muslim", because then the Christians and right wingers would go absolutely insane.  Now, it is possible that a white guy in a hoodie can be a muslim, but I'm at least a bit relieved that it wasn't someone who fit into the prevailing media stereotype of "a brown muslim".

Younger generations are not old enough to remember the same presumption of "Muslim terrorist" was made both about the Olympic park bombing in Atlanta and the Oklahoma city attack. Neither were Muslims.

So out of curiosity I looked him up on facebook and found what appears to be his genuine facebook page (it was made a long time ago) https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100009674437955

Not much information on it, but what is interesting is that out of 81 facebook friends, a number of them are black. Seems odd for a white supremacist.

As I said, as long as the cards aren't on the table it's useless to speculate. Guy could have snapped for any reason, but it's just odd to bring a piece into a prayer meeting. That points to some level of premeditation.

I am not ready to call this a racist act. I'd have to know if this murderer said anything while shooting. But it could be simply a mentally disturbed individual just like the Newton shooter. If it was racist you could certainly say outside influences lead that sick fuck to that target, but I'd say mental illness regardless is going to come into play.

Even with that theater shooter, I don't like the legal standard of not guilty by reason of mental defect. I think outside a courtroom in psychology, you can know right from wrong, and be mentally ill at the same time. I think you can be guilty and mentally ill at the same time.

I think even with cases of religious violence, you are still talking about delusion and disenfranchisement combined to create acts of desperation.

Last report is that the shooter posted a picture of himself wearing a pro-apartheid jacket.  Pretty sure this is going to prove to be at least partly a racist act.  That it was also an act of an insane person is a given.

Russia today has a link to his myspace page and the only song he posted on it was by a "Christian death metal band ".

Just saw that on the news.  I bet this capture had more to do with police investigation and BOLO of the car than the public spotting him. They got him in Shelby NC.
