I had a look at af.com at the same time back in the day, but never felt tempted to join for some subjective reason that is hard to pin down...
The fool hath said in his heart, There is a God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good.

I can't remember how I got here.
I stay because I like the people.
Also, I've burned my bridges everywhere else.

I'm here because I got interested in the question of god again. Why? Because my children are struggling with Christian friends at the same time we are visiting in-laws in the Bible Belt more often. I stayed because I like the give and take. And because of the people here.
If there is a god, I want to believe that there is a god. If there is not a god, I want to believe that there is no god.

I answered this question pretty much in another thread recently, so I'll copy across what I wrote:
Off the top of my head, these are why I come here. Not in any particular order.
1- I want to support atheists everywhere in the world, as I'm painfully aware how much harder they have it than me (I don't have it hard at all).
2- I want to highlight the harm religion and indoctrination does.
3- I'm trying to promote critical thinking. I'm not trying to get everyone to agree with, I simply want them to stop, think and really evaluate their beliefs.
4- I want to send my thoughts out so that all the people reading the forum who don't sign up may hopefully benefit from them. The people who benefit the most from the forum, in that regard, will be these people most likely.
5- I want to help lift the taboo about criticising and mocking religion. No ideas should be immune. I hope to promote the idea that holding your beliefs as your identity is a problem.
6- I want to show that atheists are just people and not the demented straw men we often get portrayed as.
7- It's a lot of fun ripping into religion! I firmly believe that showing how easily something can be made to look stupid is itself a form of valid criticism.
8- I want to meet like minded individuals who understand how I feel about it all.
9- I want to make friends.
10- This is an outlet for a subject I feel very passionate about but don't have hardly anyone to talk to about in real life.

Well, I'm actually a secret christian who came here to infiltrate the community and work my way up to a position of power so I can destroy the place from the inside, so...

I came here after I figured out posting on "religious debate" forums kept getting me banned due to my particular way of posting. What I love about this forum is how liberal it is compared to any other forum.

That's ok, the important thing is that you believe in something. People without principles are the worst!

I do feel so sorry for all you Americans who have to put up with this nonsense everyday. I only get my fix of religios insanity on the internet. It's nice because you can just leave when it frustrates you.
Christianity hardly ever gets mentioned here, and if it does it's most likely in a negative sense. If anyone said "amen" or "praise the lord" in a unironic way at work they'd get very funny looks.

Ok this made me smile.
