Why Christianity?

The Greek's believed in eternal matter.
So? I believe in eternal matter as well. All the matter and energy that exists currently, always existed, but just in a different state, if you accept the big bang theory. I am pretty sure you just argued against yourself.

If you believe in eternal matter then you don't believe in the big bang. The big bang is the event in which all time, space, and matter came into existence.

But what does the big bang have to do with assuming a creator for the sake of argument?

If it could be proven beyond doubt that God exists...
and that He is the one spoken of in the Bible...
would you repent of your sins and place your faith in Jesus Christ?

False.

Quote:The Big Bang theory is the prevailing cosmological model for the universe from the earliest known periods through its subsequent large-scale evolution.[1][2][3] It states that the universe expanded from a very high density state,[4][5] and offers a comprehensive explanation for a broad range of observed phenomena, including the abundance of light elements, the cosmic microwave background, large scale structure, and Hubble's Law.[6] If the known laws of physics are extrapolated beyond where they are valid, there is a singularity.

At this point, science does not know the state of things before the Planck epoch. It is a leap to say the Big Bang expansion is when all time, space and matter came into existence.

I stand corrected.  My intention was to point out that with respect to a cosmogony that includes the big bang, matter is not eternal.

I'll rephrase and state:  "Prior to singularity there was no time, no space, and no matter.  The big bang is a rapid expansion of the space and matter found within the singularity.  Is that a satisfactory representation?

If it could be proven beyond doubt that God exists...

Orange, I think the key point is we don't know anything before Planck time. So, we can only go back to that horizon. Before that, the current laws of physics may not hold.

Also, matter and energy are different forms of the same thing. So, you can't really divorce one from the other. And energy was certainly present at Planck time and was not created AFAIK. I'm not sure about time, but space expanded during the BB, but we don't know what form it may have existed in here prior to Planck time. There are many theories, but little to no empirical evidence, again AFIAIK.

Alex K could no doubt wax eloquent and in detail here. I'm an IT guy. What the hell do I know?

And this would put the events prior to the Planck time as "supernatural" (or outside natural law) since the laws of nature are broken down.

The resurrection is a historical fact. That should worry you.

You're clearly not privvy to biblical scholarship. They sing a much different tune than that.

Orange, are we going to get back over to the whole god thing or are you going to continue to misrepresent science?
